Shift, Workday and Workweek a) The shift shall consist of eight (8) hours of work plus one (1) unpaid one-half (½) hour meal period. b) The workday is a fixed and regularly recurring period of twenty-four (24) consecutive hours and begins at 12:01 a.m. each calendar day. c) The workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of one hundred sixty-eight (168) hours – seven (7) consecutive twenty-four (24) hour periods – beginning at 12:01 a.m., Sunday. The full-time work schedule in the workweek shall consist of one (1) eight (8) hour shift during each five (5) days and shall not exceed forty (40) hours of work.

If operations require, shifts may vary from 7.5 consecutive hours. b) Since the needs of the Employer’s operations require variations in staffing levels and scheduled hours or shifts, the shift’s start time and end time will conform to those requirements. c) In the event it becomes necessary to change an employee’s shift or schedule, the employer will whenever possible give a fifteen (15) calendar day notice. Such notice will not be given to a rotating employee. An employee working a rotating schedule may be assigned the same shift on different days including weekends. An employee may have both a rotating and flexible schedule. d) Other than employees hired into a rotating shift or schedule, the Employer will provide twenty-one (21) calendar daysnotice to the employee prior to significant changes in shift or schedule unless operational needs warrant a shorter notice. A significant shift change occurs when the shift is changed among the following: 4, 7.5, 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts (excluding a change from 7.5 to 8 hours, or vice versa). A significant schedule change occurs when an employee that works Mon-Fri is changed to include a weekend day (Sat-Sun) or vice-versa (works the weekend and is changed to include only weekdays). e) No change shall occur in an employee's regular work schedule to obviate overtime pay, premium pay or holiday work. However, it is understood that work forces may be reduced during holidays without change of shifts. f) The Parties generally adhere to the principle of maintaining work schedules which will provide the employee with five (5) consecutive work days and two (2) consecutive days free from work during each employee’s workweek, unless the employee has a rotating or flex schedule. Such principle will, when permitted by the needs of the Employer, be followed in the establishment of work schedules when and wherever such establishment is under the exclusive control of the Employer. Such principle cannot be followed when and wherever an employee’s schedule, including their work days and hours of work, is changed for the employee’s convenience, e.g., rotation of shift (or hours and days of work) made for purpose of providing opportunity for an employee to enjoy the calendar day Sunday free from work or other changes for the employee's c...

  • Workday and Workweek The regular workweek of a full-time employee in the bargaining unit shall be forty (40) hours and shall consist of five (5) consecutive days of eight (8) hours per day.

  • Work Day and Work Week The normal work day shall consist of up to 8 hours of work within a 24-hour period. The normal work week shall consist of up to 40 hours of work within a 7-day period. The Employer may define the work week on an individual, department, shift or facility basis in accordance with Federal and State law.

  • Workweek A regularly re-occurring period of one hundred and sixty-eight (168) hours consisting of seven (7) consecutive twenty-four (24) hour periods. Workweeks will normally begin at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday and end at 12:00 midnight the following Saturday or as otherwise designated by the appointing authority. If there is a change in their workweek, employees will be given written notification by the appointing authority or their designee.

  • Hour Shifts When the Employer deems it necessary to implement a twelve (12) hour work day, affected employees shall be notified pursuant to Clause 14.05. The following Clauses shall be replaced or added to the Collective Agreement where appropriate.

(Those Hospitals with the lesser required hours shall reflect in the salary rates a pro-rata lesser amount compared with salaries for other Hospitals based on the ratio that the standard or normal hours of work at the Hospital concerned are to thirty-seven and one-half (37½) hours and shall appropriately reflect such hours in this Article). The length of time over which the hours of work per week are to be averaged shall be determined locally and shall be set out in the Local Provisions Appendix. (b) (applicable to part-time employees only) The normal or standard work day shall be seven and one-half (7½) hours per day and the normal or standard full- time work week shall be an average of thirty-seven and one- half (37½) hours per week except in those hospitals where agreements already provide a normal or standard work day of less than seven and one-half hours and a normal or standard full-time work week of less than thirty-seven and one-half (37½) hours. (Those Hospitals with the lesser required hours shall reflect in the salary rates a pro-rata lesser amount compared with salaries for other Hospitals based on the ratio that the standard or normal hours work at the Hospital concerned are to thirty-seven and one-half (37½) hours and shall appropriately reflect such hours in this article.) Part-time employees shall be entitled to overtime pay at the rate of time and one-half their regular straight time hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of the normal or standard work day or in excess of the normal or standard full-time work week. The length of time over which the hours of work per week are to be averaged shall be determined locally and shall be set out in the Local Provisions Appendix. (c) Where the Hospital and the Union agree, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Labour, other arrangements regarding hours of work may be entered into between parties on a local level with respect to tours beyond the normal or standard work day in accordance with the provisions set out in Article 25.01 of the collective agreement.

  • Normal Workweek The normal workweek shall consist of five (5) days, eight (8) hours per day and forty (40) hours per week. This Article shall not restrict the extension of the regular workday or workweek on an overtime basis when such is necessary to carry on the business of the District.

  • Weekend Worker A weekend schedule may be developed in order to meet the Home’s need for weekend staff, and individual employees’ preference for a weekend work schedule. A weekend schedule is defined as a schedule in which a full-time weekend worker works a weekly average of thirty (30) hours and is paid for 37.5 hours at their regular straight time hourly rate. The schedule must include two 11.25-hour tours, which fall within a weekend period as determined by the Home and the Union. An employee working a weekend schedule will work every weekend except as provided for in the provisions below. The Employer and the Union may agree to implement weekend worker position(s) if sixty-six and two thirds’ percent (66⅔%) of the full-time and part-time employees who work in the facility/unit are in agreement. The introduction of that schedule and the manner in which the position(s) are filled, shall be determined by the local parties. This schedule may be discontinued by either party with notice as determined by the local parties. The opportunity for an individual employee to discontinue this schedule shall be resolved by the local parties. Notwithstanding the voting mechanism above, a three (3) month trial period (or longer period, where agreed by the Home and the Union) for a weekend worker arrangement may be implemented without a vote in circumstances where the following additional conditions apply: ▪ An RN (or RNs) volunteers or applies for a weekend worker position and the Home and the Union agrees to accept the request. ▪ The work schedule will be modified to accommodate such a request provided there is no reduction in the regularly scheduled hours of the other RNs in the bargaining unit. ▪ Prior to the conclusion of the trial period, representatives of the Home and of the Union will evaluate and discuss the outcomes. Each Home must have the majority agreement of the full-time and part-time employees who vote on the issue to agree on a trial period of up to six months. Once the trial period is complete, each Home must have a minimum of 66⅔% agreement of the full-time and part-time employees who vote on the issue to continue with the new schedule on a permanent basis. (a) Weekend and shift premiums shall not be paid.

  • Weekend Work (1) All ordinary hours of work performed between midnight on Friday and midnight on Sunday shall be paid for at the rate of time and one-half.

  • Hour Shift A ten (10) hour tour shall be inclusive of an unpaid thirty-seven and one half (37.5) minute meal period and two fifteen (15) minute paid relief periods.

  • Hours Worked For the purpose of computing the number of hours worked, all time during which an employee is in paid status shall be construed as hours worked.
