Special or Compassionate Leave. 23.3.1 The Employer may grant an employee a leave of absence with pay for not more than three (3) days in a year for special or compassionate purposes.

Special or Compassionate Leave. Up to three (3) days leave under Article (a) may be granted for the following reasons: professional, legal and/or medical appointments that cannot be scheduled outside the employee’s work hours; parental family related responsibilities. Leaves specified under would be subject to the following provisions: the employee applies for such leave at least seven (7) days in advance of the period required, or as soon as such period is known; and the leave requested is approved by the employee's immediate supervisor or designate. For the purpose of administration, approved leave specified under shall be charged against the employee's attendance credits as follows: up to two (2) hours: one quarter day credit; between two (2) hours and four (4) hours: one half day credit; between four (4) hours and six (6) hours: three quarter day credit; more than six (6) hours: one (1) full day credit.

Special or Compassionate Leave. 19.01 An employee who experiences serious illness or accident within her immediate family when her presence is required should make the situation known to her supervisor. Supervisory staff are authorized to grant time off and the Executive Director will subsequently determine whether or not it is to be with pay. No more than three (3) days per year will be granted under this Article. This is in addition to Compassionate Care Leave provided for in the Employment Standards Act to which all employees are entitled.
