Step 1 Grievance Clause Samples
The Step 1 Grievance clause establishes the initial procedure for addressing and resolving disputes or complaints within an organization or between parties. Typically, this clause requires that grievances be formally submitted in writing to a designated supervisor or representative, who then reviews the issue and attempts to resolve it at the earliest stage. By providing a structured first step for conflict resolution, the clause helps ensure that problems are addressed promptly and efficiently, potentially preventing escalation and fostering a cooperative environment.
Step 1 Grievance. (a) An employee with a grievance shall first discuss the matter with the employee's immediate supervisor within fifteen (15) working days of the date the employee knew of or should have known of the matter supporting the grievance. The supervisor and the employee shall make every effort to resolve the dispute. A shop ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ will be provided if requested by the employee.
(b) If the dispute is not resolved in the above oral step, the grievance may be reduced to writing and submitted by the employee/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ within five (5) working days of the unsuccessful oral discussion. The Plant Manager will schedule a meeting with the employee/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ within ten (10) working days upon receipt of the written grievance. A written response to the grievance will be provided to the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ within five (5) working days of meeting between the manager and employee/▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.
Step 1 Grievance a) A grievance shall be written and shall include the nature of the grievance, relevant particulars, the section or sections of this Agreement that are alleged to have been violated, and the redress sought.
b) The parties shall meet physically or virtually to discuss the grievance within seven (7) days from when the grievance was filed.
c) The Employer shall give the grievor its decision in writing within seven (7) days from the Step 1 meeting date.
d) If no meeting is held within the seven (7) days referred to in paragraph (b) above, or if the grievor or the Union do not agree with the Employer's Step 1 decision (paragraph (c) above) then the grievance may be advanced to Step 2 as per Article 9.04.
e) The grievance shall be submitted to the Employer's Labour Relations Specialist or designate.
Step 1 Grievance. 4.2.2.1 Within 30 working days of the difference arising, regardless of the cause or source of the difference, if an informal dispute resolution has not been reached, the Member will submit the complaint to the Association. If the Association decides to proceed with a grievance, they will file the grievance in writing with the appropriate ▇▇▇▇, with a copy to Human Resources and the Member, outlining the nature of the difference and the resolution sought.
4.2.2.2 In matters to be grieved arising from the discipline of a Member, a grievance will be filed at Step 1 within ten working days of receipt of the discipline.
4.2.2.3 Within ten working days of the receipt of the grievance, the Member, the ▇▇▇▇ and one representative from each of Human Resources and the Association will meet and attempt to resolve the difference. This step will not continue beyond ten working days from the date of the first grievance meeting.
4.2.2.4 An Association representative will accompany the Member through all steps of the grievance procedure.
Step 1 Grievance. Employees have 15 days from the occurrence of the event or when the grievant becomes aware of the event giving rise to the grievant’s complaint to file the written grievance with the 2nd level supervisor.
12.12.1.1. Prior to filing this grievance, the employee is encouraged (either with or without the union) to discuss the event with the lowest level supervisor.
12.12.1.2. The second level supervisor will respond within 15 days of the date the grievance was filed.
12.12.1.3. For employees assigned to an organization that is a direct report to the Wing Commander, the Wing Commander will meet with the grievant and/or representative.
Step 1 Grievance. The grievance shall first be taken up informally by the grievant (and/or a Union Representative if desired by the employee) with the grievant’s immediate supervisor. The parties should meet and discuss the grievance in an attempt to resolve the matter. If not settled informally, the grievance must be submitted to the grievant’s immediate supervisor in writing within 15 days of the day the incident occurred that gave rise to the grievance or within 15 days of the day the grievant should have reasonably been expected to be aware of the incident that gave rise to the grievance. An on- going event that may give rise to a grievance may be grieved any time, provided that at the time the grievance is filed the event complained of must have last occurred no more than 15 days before the grievance is filed. The written grievance and the remedy requested may not be altered in any subsequent step and arbitration. A decision will be issued to the grievant in writing within 7 days after presentation of the grievance.

If the division head is not available, the grievance may be filed with the supervisor on the next step up on the chain of command. 10.2.1. Step 1 Grievance

4.2.3.1.1 In matters arising from the discipline of a member a grievance shall be filed at Step 1 within 10 working days of receipt of the discipline.
4.2.3.2 Within ten (10) working days of the receipt of the grievance, the ▇▇▇▇ or Executive Director, Human Resources, the Association and the member shall meet and attempt to resolve the difference. This step shall not continue beyond ten (10) working days from the date of the first grievance meeting.
4.2.3.3 A Faculty Association representative will accompany the member through all steps of the grievance procedure.
