Vacation Process. Fire Dispatchers Only Vacation for Fire dispatchers will begin January 1 and continue through December 31 in the same year. To maintain adequate staffing within the Fire Communications Bureau, the following process shall be used: - No more than 50% of the total number of assigned Fire dispatchers on that shift may be off at one time. However, if the result has a decimal point (e.g., 2.5), that number is rounded down to the number of dispatchers to be working on the shift. (Example: if the total number of dispatchers is 5, 50% is 2.5. Therefore, 2 dispatchers would be on the schedule, and 3 would be allowed off.) - Vacations shall be selected by Fire Communications Bureau seniority within that shift. - For the purpose of this section, vacation is the total days of accrued vacation, holiday, Bonus, discretionary vacation, and discretionary holiday. - First round of picks: Each dispatcher shall choose ten (10) days (if available) - Second round: Half of the remaining vacation days - Third round: The remaining days left for each dispatcher All vacation days selected by the dispatcher shall be entered in the vacation book on the appropriate page and initialed by the dispatcher. This process of vacation selection shall be started by the first week of December, or earlier, if the schedule is ready. Vacation picks shall be completed by December 31, keeping in mind that the Bonus Day total may be affected due to additional, unforeseen sick time usage. After the vacation selection process is completed, vacation days may be changed by the dispatcher. The 50% rule regarding the number of dispatchers allowed off on a shift, as noted above, still applies.
