WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. If an employee is directed by the Chief, or his designee, to perform the duties of an employee absent from regularly assigned duties in a higher rank on a temporary basis, the employee’s pay rate shall be increased by 4% above their present salary. The higher rate will remain in effect for the entire time spent filling the vacancy, provided the employee spends a minimum of four (4) hours per shift performing the duties of the higher rank.

WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. If a member is required to perform the duties of a higher classification for eight (8) or more consecutive hours, the member shall be paid four percent (4%) above the member’s current wage rate for each hour worked in the higher classification for all hours during which they perform such duties. If a member is required to perform the duties of the next higher classification as a result of a vacancy in that rank, and if the member performs such duties continuously and is subsequently promoted without interruption (i.e., without first being returned to the member’s prior assignment), then the member’s seniority date for the new classification shall be the date of assignment to the next higher classification which immediately preceded the promotion.

WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. Employees in full-time non-seasonal job classifications who are temporarily assigned to a classification with a higher wage rate, will be paid four percent (4%) above the employee's current rate for each hour worked in the higher class upon completing four (4) consecutive hours in the higher class in a workday. Working out of class assignments are not to be used in lieu of seeking approval for filling a vacant position, nor for the sole purpose of paying an employee at a higher class in circumvention of the requirements set forth by the Civil Service Commission.

WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. Whenever a Patrol Officer is required to work in the capacity of a sergeant, he shall be paid one (1) additional half-hour at his regular rate for every four (4) hours worked as a sergeant. This section will not be applicable to any period in which the Chief of Police is on duty unless otherwise authorized by the Chief of Police.
WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. A. Whenever the needs of the City require an employee to temporarily perform the duties of a higher classification than that in which the employee is currently employed, said employee shall be entitled to receive out of classification pay for the period of time that the employee works out of classification. Out of classification pay shall be at a flat rate of five‐percent (5%) of base salary. B. In order to receive out of classification pay the following provisions must occur: 1. The name of the employee who is absent must be noted on the employee’s timesheet prior to out of classification pay being authorized. 2. A vacancy or absence must exist for out of classification pay to be paid. 3. The employee receiving out of classification pay must perform essentially all of the functions of the higher classification in order to receive compensation. 4. The employee shall meet the minimum qualifications for the higher classification in order to be eligible for out of classification pay. C. Working out of classification pay for special assignments will only be authorized upon recommendation to the City Manager by the Department Director and will require a Personnel Action Form with supporting documentation justifying the special assignment.
WORKING OUT OF CLASSIFICATION PAY. Any bargaining unit member who is assigned, for more than four (4) hours in a shift, to temporarily perform the duties and responsibilities associated with a classification or position senior to that employee's normal classification shall receive: A. Pay at either the first step of the higher salary range or five percent (5%) more than the employee's regular rate, whichever is greater, not to exceed the top step of the higher salary range. However, at no time will WOC Captain exceed top step Captain (Step 6). B. Upon the 90th day of such assignment, pay at the top step of the higher salary range provided a Career position has been vacant and unfilled (versus an incumbent being absent). Any employee working out of class on or after the 90th day in the vacated position shall receive pay at the top step of the higher salary range. This provision shall not apply to appointments as EMS Coordinator, EMS Trainer, or Training Officer.
