Voluntary Demotions. For purposes of this Section, the term Aopening@ shall apply to any permanent vacancy in a classification. An employee may vacate from his current classification once per year given there is an opening and the employee is qualified to perform in the lower classification to which the employee has requested a demotion. The Department will assign voluntarily demoted employees beginning with the next employee pay cycle. Employees will have thirty (30) days to certify for position openings. No employee shall be displaced from the Department through a voluntary demotion. Employees who voluntarily demote to a lower classification will be placed in the new payline for the lower classification based on their years of service in the lower classification. Employees that voluntarily demote to the classification of Firefighter will receive credit for total time spent in the Department when being placed on that payline.
Voluntary Demotions. An employee who receives a voluntary demotion shall be paid at the step in the range of the lower class of positions that best reflects the earned step based on creditable State service, or at such higher step as may be determined by the Director of the Division of Personnel. An employee who receives a voluntary demotion except through reclassification will continue to receive salary, performance and longevity increases received by other employees.

However, an employee who voluntarily demotes to Fire Inspector I will be frozen until such time as they are promoted to Fire Inspector II. Employees that voluntarily demote to the classification of Firefighter will receive credit for total time spent in the Department when being placed on that payline.
Voluntary Demotions. (a) A voluntary demotion is the movement by an employee's request from his permanent classification to a classification in a lower salary group that involves duties that the employee is qualified to perform.
Voluntary Demotions. A bargaining unit member who promotes to the position of Captain may, at his or her discretion, demote back to his or her previous classification. Such demotion shall be considered voluntary, and the provisions of 10 PR 055 shall apply. A bargaining unit member who promotes to Captain and does not satisfactorily complete his or her probationary period, shall be demoted back to the job classification he or she held prior to the promotion. Such demotion shall be considered involuntary and the provisions of 10 PR 050 shall apply. A bargaining unit member who is not a Captain may request a demotion through the provisions of 10 PR 055. Employees may resign voluntarily from special teams and will only forfeit professional pay associated with the assignment if applicable.
Voluntary Demotions. Unit members who wish to take a 25 voluntary demotion in lieu of layoff to a position within a class not previously held 26 may request a transfer to a vacant position for which they qualify.
