BREAVEMENT LEAVE. Each bargaining unit member will be accorded seven (7) days of bereavement leave per year for each such occurrence. Death of a father, step-father, father-in-law, mother, step-mother, mother- in-law, spouse, child, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandparent, or relative who lives continuously with the bargaining unit member. The first four (4) days of each such occurrence are not chargeable to the bargaining unit member’s accrued sick leave balance. The remaining three (3) days of each such occurrence are chargeable to the bargaining unit member’s accrued sick leave balance. Each bargaining unit member will be accorded one (1) day of bereavement leave per year for each such occurrence for the death of a close friend, distant relative, or neighbor. This bereavement leave shall not exceed three (3) days per year and is chargeable to the bargaining unit member’s accrued sick leave balance.
BREAVEMENT LEAVE. Paid absence for the death or burial of a relative or a friend. Three (3) days of leave will be allowed for the death of an immediate family member as defined in Section A. Leave for other funerals shall be for a maximum of one day. Exceptional circumstances that would require additional absences will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the building principal and the Superintendent (Rev. 8-2012).
BREAVEMENT LEAVE. (a) A member is entitled to receive a leave of absence, and to be paid at his / her normal rate of pay for any scheduled working days that fall within the period of the leave. The timing of such leave is to be at the option of the member, provided that the day of the funeral, if any, is to be part of the leave period. The member shall be entitled to receive this benefit in the death of any of the following: (i) Mother, stepmother and (ii) Father, stepfather and (iii) adopting Mother, and
BREAVEMENT LEAVE. When a death occurs to a mother/father, spouse (including common-law and same sex), brother, sister, son and daughter ) employees upon request will be excused for the five (5) normally scheduled working days excluding Saturdays, Sundays, vacations and holidays, surrounding the date of the funeral, provided they attend the actual funeral. The employee may be requested to submit documentation confirming the death. When a death occurs in an employee's immediate family (parent of a current spouse, step-brother, step-sister, step-parent, step-parent of a current spouse, step-child, grandchild, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandparents, grandparents of a current spouse, also brother-in-law, sister-in-law of a current spouse) employees upon request will be excused for the three (3) normally scheduled working days excluding Saturdays, Sundays, vacations and holidays, surrounding the date of the funeral, provided they attend the actual funeral. The employee may be requested to submit documentation confirming the death. An employee will be granted one (1) day compassionate leave of absence with pay in the event they are unable to attend the actual funeral because of travel. Such leave of absence shall be for immediate family (spouse, including common-law, parents, child, brother, sister, grandparents, and grandchild). An employee excused from work under this clause shall, after making written application receive the amount of wages (including shift premium) they would have earned by working during straight time hours on such scheduled days of work for which they were excused.

[2002] (b) In the case of special circumstances, and where the member makes an application to the Chief of the Xxxxxxxx Police Service, [2002] the leave of absence described in sub-section (1) of this Section may be extended by the said Chief to five (5) days. (c) The Chief of Police, subject to the exigencies of the service, may grant a leave of absence without pay where a member wishes to attend the burial of a person who is not mentioned in Section 12.1 (a).
BREAVEMENT LEAVE. 19.01 An employee will be granted bereavement leave of five (5) consecutive working days without loss of salary in the event of the death of a spouse, child, step-child, mother, step- mother, father, stepfather, brother, or sister, as well as for any other relative who was a member of the household. Such days may be taken only in the period which extends from the date of death up to and including the day following interment, or five (5) consecutive working days following the death, whichever is the greater. One (1) bereavement leave day may be retained at the employee’s request for use in the case where actual interment or cremation is at a later date, or two (2) of five (5) days where travel is required. 19.02 In the event of the death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, son- in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchild or grandparent, who is not a member of the employee's household, three (3) consecutive working days' leave without loss of salary will be granted and an additional two (2) consecutive days' leave may be granted with loss of salary equal to the minimum rate for the employee's classification. Such days may be taken only in the period which extends from the date of death up to and including the day following interment, or three (3) (five (5) (if additional loss of salary days granted)) consecutive working days following the death, whichever is the greater. One (1) bereavement leave day may be retained at the employee’s request for use in the case where actual interment or cremation is at a later date, or two (2) of three (3) days where travel is required.

BREAVEMENT LEAVE. After completion of 3 months continuous services, the worker is entitled to 3 days paid bereavement leave in addition to any other leave entitlement.

Spouse or partner means a person of the same or opposite sex who is involved in an intimate relationship with an employee. a) Where a member of an employee's immediate family dies, an employee shall be entitled to a maximum of three (3) consecutive days leave without loss of pay for scheduled days of work missed. One of the days shall include either the date of death or the date of the funeral/equivalent service. Where the family member is a spouse, common-law spouse, partner, mother, father or child, the maximum number of days will be five (5). b) An employee shall be entitled to leave without loss of pay for a scheduled day missed to a maximum of one (1) day to attend the funeral or equivalent service in the event of the death of a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law. c) An employee may apply for additional leave without pay where travel or other extenuating circumstances warrant. 34.1 35.1
