Casual Call-In Procedure. Casuals will be called in by seniority by classification within a program. • Staff to ensure that their scheduled hours of work do not exceed forty (40) hours per week and not more than eight (8) hours per day, particularly when accepting shifts with more than one (1) program. • Staff must keep their Supervisor informed of changes to availability as soon as possible. • Staff to indicate their availability on the completed Availability form or via e-mail. • Staff to indicate their availability for the following two month periods on an Availability form (April, May), (October, November), (December, January), (February, March). • The Availability form must be updated and submitted on the second (2nd) Friday of each month preceding the beginning of any one two-month period. • For the peak period between June 15th and September 15th, staff will be required to submit an Availability form on the 2nd Friday in March. • Casual staff who fails to declare their availability for two (2) consecutive periods, she will receive a letter indicating that their availability must be declared within thirty (30) days of receiving the letter in order to remain on the casual availability list. After thirty (30) days, should the Employer not receive an updated Availability form, the Employer will send all causal employees a letter to confirm their casual employment every January and June. The initial letter will be sent via email with ten (10) days to respond. If the employee does not respond within ten (10) days the employer will send a registered letter to the last known address on file asking the employee to confirm their causal status within ten (10) days or they will be presumed to have abandoned their position. The employee will be afforded a further opportunity to rebut such presumption and demonstrate that there was reasonable grounds for not informing the Employer. When a casual employee has not worked a shift in a (12) twelve month period, they will receive a letter to the last known address indicating that their availability must be declared within thirty (30) days of receiving the letter in order to remain on the casual availability list. Casual Call-In Procedure. The parties agree to the following guidelines at all facilities with regards to the above noted Article:
1) Employees shall be permitted to provide up to two (2) contact numbers, one primary and one secondary.
2) During normal business hours, where a vacancy is to occur within twenty-four (24) hours of the shift, the Employer will call the primary number, letting it ring a minimum of eight
Casual Call-In Procedure. Causal employees must be oriented to work in a worksite. Each employee will be oriented by a Program Manager or designate.
a) Availability Casual employees will submit their availability in writing by 12 noon on the 25th day of each month to the Program Manager or designate for the following month. Casual employees must be available for a minimum of 3 shifts per month. Casual employees shall provide management with a minimum of 24 hours’ notice of a change to availability. Extenuating circumstances which alter availability must be communicated to the Program Manager in writing. Approval by the Program Manager or designate will be in writing. Casual employees must be available for a minimum of 8 statutory holidays out of 13 per calendar year. This must include one of either Christmas Day or New Years’ Day. Call outs will be conducted based on current availability. If availability is not submitted, after the employer has gone through all other options, a casual staff may receive a call to determine their availability. The Employer will send a letter via registered mail to casual employees who have not worked any shifts for three (3) months to determine if the casual employees want to remain employed. Casual employees who have not worked any shifts for six (6) months will be deemed to have resigned. An employee will be afforded the opportunity within 10 days to rebut such presumption and demonstrate that there were reasonable grounds for not working any shifts in the six (6) month period.
Casual Call-In Procedure. When the employer determines hours of work that need to be assigned, to cover absences due to sick leave, vacation periods, special leaves(s), approved leaves(s), temporary vacancies or to augment staffing during peak periods, the following process will be followed. Regardless of the employment status of the employee doing the work, these hours will be deemed casual hours.
1. The Employer is obligated to assign casual hours to the senior employee who is available to perform the work available, provided that the employee has the required qualifications and ability to perform the work.
2. The Employer is not required to assign casual hours to an employee that will result in that employee working at overtime rates.
3. Employees who are regular part time employees (as defined in Article 2.l(b) of this Collective Agreement) will be considered senior to all casual employees (as defined In Article 30.1 of this Collective Agreement). Part time employees working casual hours will be covered by this addendum.
4. All casual employees (and any part time employee who wishes to be called for additional hours) will inform the Employer in writing no later than the fifteenth (15th) of each month their availability for work assignments. Part time employees must signify the programs they wish to be offered work in. Part time employees may have their name deleted from the availability list at any time prior to an assignment being made for that period. Any change to an employee's availability must be in writing and can be received in person, by fax or by email.
5. The parties have agreed that casual employees will be available:
a) A minimum of 2 days per week even if the week includes a statutory holiday; and,
b) To work a minimum of one program: Port Coquitlam and/or North Vancouver. Once having accepted a shift, a casual employee has the same obligations to report for and complete that shift as expected of a regular employee. Once having accepted a shift a casual employee will not be eligible for any other shift that conflicts with it.
6. Seasonal casual employees will be considered to be those casual employees who are only available for work during peak vacation time: July and August. Seasonal casual employees must be available for a minimum of 8 days per month during the months of July and August. Casual Call-In Procedure. The Employer shall consider seniority and the necessity for on-the-job orientation of new employees in the calling of casual employees. Casual assignments will be offered to casual employees so as to maintain their relative standing on the seniority list. A casual employee shall be entitled to register for work in any position in any one department for which he/she has the qualifications to perform.
Casual Call-In Procedure. (a) Qualified casual employees shall be called in order of seniority.
(b) It is the responsibility of casual employees to ensure that the Employer is kept notified of their current mailing address, telephone number and availability.
(c) Employees are required to submit their schedule of availability by the fifth (5th) of every month for the following calendar month. When the fifth (5th) of the month falls on a weekend, availability notification is due the Friday before the weekend. These schedules will be reviewed and either approved or declined by the Employer by the thirteenth (13th) of the month. Selection of time off shall be granted in order of seniority. The schedule will be posted by the fifteenth (15th) of the month for all employees to view regardless if the month is fully covered. Posted casual seniority lists will only apply to the next month’s schedule that has not yet been called out or posted.
Casual Call-In Procedure. Where the Employer determines hours of work that need to be assigned to cover absences that are expected to be three months or less or to augment staffing during peak periods, the following process will be followed:
1. Casual Call-In and Additional Hours will be by the following Geographic Regions below:
a. The City of Kamloops and surrounding communities within 40 kilometres.
b. The City of Vernon and surrounding communities within 40 kilometres
c. The City and District of Terrace and surrounding communities within 40 kilometres.
d. The City and District of Kelowna and surrounding communities within 40 kilometres.
e. Any other Geographic Regions identified, and mutually agreed to, by both the Union and the Employer.
Casual Call-In Procedure.
(a) Availability
(b) A casual employee who accepts an offer of work has the same obligation to work the shift as a regular employee would.
Casual Call-In Procedure. (a) The Employer may notify all qualified employees on the call-out lists of available casual hours by use of technology, such as text messaging and electronic scheduling programs (i.e. the Remind application) that allow for automation and/or for all employees on the call-out lists to be contacted at the same time.
(b) The Employer will discuss their intention to introduce technology for the call out procedure with the Union.
(c) To support the transition to using a new process or to introduce technology, the employer will clearly outline the process with employees prior to implementation in all programs.
(d) The Employer will wait fifteen (15) minutes to allow time for qualified employees to respond to the notification of available casual hours.
(e) Qualified employees who are registered for casual work and respond to the notification of casual hours will be offered casual hours in order of seniority as follows:
i. Regular Full-time (top-up to maximum straight time hours)
ii. Part-time (top-up to maximum straight time hours)
Casual Call-In Procedure a) Shift scheduling will be made on the following basis:
(i) Shifts that need to be filled within twelve (12) hours will be filled in order of seniority with the Manager moving down the list until the shift is filled.
(ii) Shifts that need to be filled within twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) hours will be made in the order of seniority with a fifteen (15) minute wait between calls to the next employee.
(iii) Shifts that need to be filled with twenty-five (25) or more hours will be made in the order of seniority allowing the employee three (3) hours to respond.
(iv) After the period specified above. The Scheduler will assign shift(s) on the basis of seniority and who has responded that they are available for the shift(s).
b) Where casual staff has not been available for shifts over a three month period, the Program Manager will contact the casual staff and ask if she wishes to continue to be a casual employee.
