Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. (reference Education Code 87045)
11.2.10.1 The illness/injury of the unit member or family member must be serious (life threatening or expected to incapacitate him/her for an extended period of time) as verified by a physician. The District may require the faculty member who is incapacitated to undergo an examination by a physician selected by the District, at the District's expense, to verify the injury or illness, the degree of disability, and the anticipated length of disability; OR, the unit member is on maternity leave and has exhausted her sick leave.
11.2.10.2 Sick leave contributions will be solicited by AFT-Guild after the faculty member makes the need known to the AFT union representative or her/his appropriate manager. AFT will then forward the donated time received to the District Payroll Manager;
11.2.10.3 The ill/injured faculty member must have exhausted all accrued full- salary paid leaves;
11.2.10.4 Injuries or illness claimed for worker's compensation injuries, whether or not approved, shall be excluded;
11.2.10.5 A maximum of sixty (60) additional paid sick leave days may be utilized by each faculty member per catastrophic illness/injury;
11.2.10.6 Sick leave days donated will be paid at the salary level of the faculty member who receives such days;

Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. 1. A catastrophic illness or injury shall be defined as a medical condition not covered by Worker's Compensation requiring absence from work greater than fifty (50) working days of consecutive absence for a single illness or injury.
2. An employee who sustains a catastrophic illness or injury may apply for and receive, for use on a matching basis, supplementary catastrophic illness or injury leave not to exceed the number of regular, unused sick leave days that the employee had accumulated on the first day of the regular sick leave applied to the catastrophic illness or injury.
3. Two (2) medical verifications of such catastrophic illness or injury shall be required. Employees shall fully cooperate with the Board and shall authorize the release of any medical records necessary. The Board shall satisfy itself that any claim for catastrophic illness or injury leave is legitimate and correctly states the facts. The Board may at its expense require an independent medical examination.
4. The School District's granting of matching leave days shall begin on the fifty-first (51) scheduled work day of catastrophic illness or injury.
Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. At the discretion of the District, this section will sunset and become null and void ninety (90) days after the District serves notice upon the AFT of its intent to do so. Any catastrophic illness donation which is in process at the time of termination of this Article will be completed. Unit members shall be permitted to contribute up to a maximum of forty (40) hours of accumulated full-pay sick leave (a minimum of eight [8] hours and in hour increments thereafter) per fiscal year to another unit member within the Unit. The parameters of the program are:
a) The illness or injury of the unit member must be serious (life threatening or expected to incapacitate the unit member for an extended period of time) as verified by a physician. The District may require the unit member who is incapacitated to undergo an examination by a physician selected by the District, at the District’s expense, to verify the injury or illness, the degree of disability, and the anticipated length of disability;
b) Sick leave contributions will be solicited by AFT after the unit member makes the need known to the AFT union representative or her/his appropriate manager. The AFT union representative will in turn confer with the District Representative to determine eligibility. Once eligibility is determined, AFT shall solicit contributions on an individual basis. AFT will then forward the donated time received to the District Payroll Manager. AFT will retain any unused contributions in a bank for future catastrophic illness use.
c) The ill/injured unit member must have exhausted all accrued full-salary paid leaves;
d) Injuries or illness claimed for workers’ compensation injuries, whether or not approved, shall be excluded;
e) A maximum of sixty (60) additional paid sick days may be utilized by each unit member per catastrophic illness/injury;
f) Sick leave days donated will be paid at the salary level of the unit member who received such days;
g) AFT shall indemnify and save harmless the District, its officers and employees from and against any and all claims, demands, liabilities, damages, costs (including reasonable attorney fees and court costs), suits and administrative proceedings arising out of or connected with unit members giving or receiving time for catastrophic illness or injuries.
Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. The purpose of the catastrophic leave bank is to provide paid leave to bargaining unit members who have experienced a catastrophic illness or injury, or have had a qualified family member experience a catastrophic illness or injury that requires the member to be absent from work. The catastrophic leave bank shall only be available to participating members of the bank. Definitions: The following definitions shall apply to this section of the contract:
Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. 6.11.1 A Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave program shall be established to permit bargaining unit members to donate their own accrued sick leave on a voluntary basis to other bargaining unit members for the purposes of catastrophic illness or injury. Bargaining unit members shall be able to use donated sick leave credits as paid sick leave, pursuant to the requirements of this section.
Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. Unit members shall be permitted to contribute up to a maximum of five (5) accumulated vacation or sick leave days (a minimum of eight [8] hours and in hour increments thereafter) per fiscal year to another unit member within the District. Unit members shall be allowed to contribute to and receive contributions from any district employee. The parameters of the program are:
a. The illness/injury of the unit member must be serious (life threatening or expected to incapacitate the unit member for an extended period of time) as verified by physician. b. The contributions will be on an individual solicitation basis by AFT after the unit member makes the need known to the Payroll and Benefits Manager, their President/Vice Chancellor or union representative;
c. The ill/injured unit member must have exhausted all accrued full-salary paid leaves;
d. Injuries or illness claimed for worker's compensation injuries, whether or not approved, shall be excluded;
e. A maximum of sixty (60) work days may be utilized by each unit member per catastrophic illness/injury;
f. Vacation or sick leave days donated will be paid at the salary level of the unit member who receives such days; . AFT shall indemnify and save harmless the District, its officers and employees from and against any and all claims, demands, liabilities, damages, costs (including reasonable attorney fees and court costs), suits and administrative proceedings arising out of or connected with unit members giving or receiving time for catastrophic illness or injuries.

Catastrophic Illness or Injury Leave. 1. Catastrophic illness or injury means a personal incapacitating illness or injury which is expected to continue for an extended period of time as verified by appropriate physician and prevents the member from performing regular assigned work.
