Education and Research. Good education brings out the best in people, reduces and prevents learning disadvantage and enables talent to flourish. Good education lays the foundations for a healthy and successful society. The government will therefore continue to invest in further improvements to education and research, and in the people working in this field. We want to give them more professional freedom and responsibility. The government’s chief ambitions are to combat inequality of opportunity, stimulate talent, strengthen the teaching profession, promote top-quality research and boost vocational education. • We will allocate €170 million to strengthen early childhood education. This will make it possible to provide 16 hours of teaching per week for disadvantaged pupils. • The statutory basis for a mandatory diagnostic interim test in secondary education will be repealed. • In the first two years of secondary school, some children thrive in a transitional class with a broad range of subjects, postponing the choice for a specific type of secondary education for a little longer. By contrast, there are other pupils who feel more at home in a transitional class geared to a single type of education. The government would like parents and children to have a choice. Schools will therefore be required to work together to provide a comprehensive range of transitional classes at regional level. Schools providing one type of education only will be expected to work with schools that offer several different types of education, to enable pupils to transfer smoothly from one type to another, where necessary. • Some children benefit from a more gradual transition between primary and secondary school. This need is catered for by middle-school programmes for 10 to 14 year-olds, collaborative ventures between primary and secondary schools, which will be given more experimental scope by the new government. • The government will continue with the planned reform of the education curriculum, in partnership with teachers, pupils, parents, further education and the world of work. These reforms will be enshrined in law in 2019, making compulsory education in subjects such as Dutch and mathematics more future-proof, and increasing the focus on digital literacy and practical skills. The attainment targets for technology, citizenship and sexual diversity will be made more specific. • We intend to strengthen and improve numeracy education. The benchmark levels will be reviewed as part of curriculum reform. Th...
Education and Research. Since the management of this Community Forest will require innovation and new thinking, it is likely that a number of research projects will spring from it. The new era of the Results Based Code will in fact require that our objectives are based upon scientifically proven concepts before they can be legally and professionally accepted. Our current thinking is that there may be an opportunity to establish a long term forest education and research satellite facility for the University of Northern British Columbia and the College of New Caledonia. Such a facility would be utilized to provide forest related education for local students as well as a potential site for the field work portions of the university and college curricula. It could also provide natural resource oriented ministries with a year round facility for their many upgrading courses and in-services. These partnerships would provide some of the funding or expertise to aid in the completion of the research required by the Community Forest. Obviously, the establishment of such a facility would be a major undertaking. The planning, funding, and agreements would have to be initiated upon award of the Community Forest Pilot but would likely take the full term of the pilot to be settled. Any sort of facility would then have to be established after the award of a Long Term Community Forest Agreement, further distinguishing XxXxxxx as a centre of world class community forest management (partly paraphrased from “the Proposal”). Attract research projects to aid in the management and promotion of the Community Forest. Identify gaps in the Community Forest’s management knowledge and partner researchers with the appropriate operations and/or settings. Ensure that local knowledge and achievements are promoted provincially and nationally through websites, publications, conferences, professional associations, etc. Establish education opportunities and facilities for local residents, students, nearby universities and colleges, and technical and professional employees. During the first five years of the Community Forest, develop a plan to establish a satellite research and education facility. Secure the funding and negotiate agreements to promote the educational potential of the Community Forest.

Education and Research. The Education and Research category includes target users that study performing arts and / or use performing arts digital objects for education and research in performing arts or other domains such as the humanities or social sciences. The definition of this category is justified by the results from the European Cultural Values survey where “It is demonstrated that cultural and artistic participation is highest amongst those who have spent the longest period of time in education. The same is also true of cross-cultural contact: For all types of contact under consideration, we see that these are higher among those who studied until 20 at the very earliest and lower amongst those who left education at the age of 15.” (European Cultural Values, 2007, p.43). According with this evaluation we identify university and high level schools students and teacher categories as key target users. The Research category is joined with Education because the needs, scope and requirements are very similar, as is demonstrated in the tables in section 4.5.
