EDUCATION EXPENSE. The City may reimburse an employee for books and tuition. The amount of tuition reimbursement will be limited to an amount equal to that used in the California State University (CSU) system; except where an equivalent class is unavailable in the CSU system, or in an accredited college system with similar rates, the employee may seek approval for reimbursement at a different rate. In order to keep Departments updated as to the costs associated with tuition this amount will be reviewed annually. In addition, employees attending college extension programs will be reimbursed at the California State University rate. Thus, employees pursuing Certificate Programs such as Worker's Compensation, Finance, Human Resources, etc. will be eligible for reimbursement. The certificate programs must be job related, and the knowledge and skills learned must also be of benefit to the City. The following are guidelines used for tuition/book reimbursement. 1. Prior to enrollment, employees must check with Department Heads to ensure that (1) the course will be within the scope of this section; and (2) funds have been budgeted and are available for tuition reimbursement. 2. After receiving funding approval from their Department Head, employees must check with Human Resources, to inquire if the City has a current copy of the required text. If the text is available for loan, then only the tuition costs will be reimbursed. 3. Upon completion of the class, and after receiving a grade of "C" or better, the employee may submit their tuition and book receipts, along with a copy of grades received to their Department for reimbursement.

EDUCATION EXPENSE. PBA members will continue to receive educational expense reimbursement as indicated in the Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule XVI Section 4, as the Department budget allows.

EDUCATION EXPENSE. A. The District shall pay the costs of tuition, training programs, enrollment or license fees, and any associated travel or lodging expenses incurred as a result of attending any seminar, class, conference, certification, skilled trades or training program required by the District as a condition of continuing employment, providing the employee satisfactorily completes the training requirements. Payment shall be in accordance with District policies and procedures on reimbursement of employee business expenses. Payment for hotel, public transportation and course fees shall be in advance when the cost is known in advance and sufficient time is provided for processing the payment. B. For job-related training, not directed by the District, and that is not or cannot be offered on campus, the District may sponsor attendance at that activity. For attendance at a job-related College of Marin credit course, the District may pay the cost of tuition and books AND released time for attendance and satisfactory completion (Credit or C and above grade). For a job-related College of Marin Community Education and Services (noncredit) course, the District may pay the cost of fees and books AND released time for attendance. For a job-related workshop that is offered on-site by the Staff Development Office, the District may grant released time for attendance. If any of the above activities are scheduled during working hours or if they require funding, permission to attend must be granted by the immediate supervisor, the appropriate Vice President. An employee must submit a request to his/her immediate supervisor who will then forward it (approved or unapproved) to the appropriate Vice President. The Vice President will make the final decision. Forms are available at the TRC (LC115) or the mailroom at IVC. C. Police Officers and the Police Sergeant shall receive on their paychecks each month Seventy-five Dollars ($75) if they possess an intermediate P. O. S. T. certificate and an additional One Hundred Dollars ($100) if they possess an advanced P. O. S. T. certificate and an additional Seventy-five Dollars ($75) if they possess a Supervisory P.O.S.T. certificate as an educational incentive. Police Officers who are assigned as Field Training Officers (FTO), shall receive a 5% increase while assigned as an FTO. D. Police Officers may be released every other year from normal duties for a maximum of twenty (20) hours to attend required course work for the renewal of their Emergency...

EDUCATION EXPENSE. The Employer agrees to continue the payment of tuition and book fees for employees who take courses towards a degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement at an institution of higher learning that is accredited by a national regionally recognized accreditation authority; provided, the employee enters into agreement with the Employer for repayment of fees if the employee becomes separated from service within the prescribed times set forth in the agreement. Said payments, which in the aggregate for the bargaining unit as a whole shall not exceed $2,000 per year, shall be made at the State University rate regardless of the institution attended or the actual cost incurred. Officers shall seek and obtain approval in advance of the commencement of a course for this provision to apply. If all budgeted educational funds are expended, the City may still approve payment to the employee for covered course work at its discretion. Any employee requesting the payment of tuition and books under this provision are required to: a) Execute a School Employment Reimbursement Contract attached as Appendix D b) Reimburse the City if the employee drops or quits the class and does not receive a credit for the cost of the class c) Fails to attain a grade of “C” or its equivalent in the class d) Fails to achieve a “Pass” in a pass/fail class e) The employee will not be responsible for repayment if the class is dropped as the result of employer action.
