Educational Compensation. Section 1. Any employee who desires to attend an accredited university and complete courses in a fire science or medical related degree program, shall have the employer pay for said class tuition, provided the employee complies with the following: 1. Request for attendance must be in writing to the Fire Chief, no later than thirty (30) days prior to the start of class. 2. Upon successful completion of the class the employer agrees to reimburse employee as follows: 100% - A, 80% - B, 50% - C, with a maximum quarter or semester allowance of $600.00. Which may also include required classroom text. 3. To be eligible to attend, employees must be formally accepted by the university and meets its requirements and must have completed two (2) full years of service with the Cortland Fire Department. 4. Class attendance shall be on the employees time and the Employer shall not pay the employee for any time spent in class attendance. Section 2. The Employer shall complete the reimbursement to the employee within thirty (30) days of the employees presentation of documentation to the chief.

Educational Compensation. Educational Increment Educational Degrees: Employees will be paid an annual increment of a maximum of $1,000.00 for an Associate of Arts Degree(s), or an annual increment of a maximum $1,500.00 for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree(s) from an accredited institution approved by the Associate Superintendent of Human Resources. This annual increment will be prorated for the number of months that the employee has the degree. There is a maximum of one increment paid under this section no matter how many degrees an employee has. If an employee has an AA degree(s) and a BA/BS degree(s), the employee will only be paid for one BA/BS degree for a maximum of $1,500.00 per year. This increment cannot be combined with the increment in Article 11.1-2.

The stipend in section 16.3-2 is not added to the stipend in section 16.3-1. 16.3 3 - Employee with 25 Years of Service A stipend of $2000 will be added to the base pay of each employee who has completed twenty-five years of eligible service. The stipend in section 16.3-3 is not added to the stipend in section 16.3-1 and 16.3-2. The above stipends are payable on or before June 30th.

Educational Compensation. 19.2.1. If an employee is required to attend a class or training session on a scheduled day off, the employee will be compensated at time and one half for hours worked. The employee may choose compensatory time off or overtime pay. This shall include requirements for fire or EMS certifications where the required training could not be obtained on duty. 19.2.2. Non-mandatory training hours approved by the Training Chief or designee that is outside the employee's normally scheduled shift shall be compensated as compensatory time off or straight time pay hour for hour. If, in the normal pay cycle, these non-mandatory hours worked exceed the FLSA overtime limits, the employee shall receive one and one-half hours of compensatory time for each hour worked over the FLSA limit. 19.2.3. No compensatory time shall be paid for any training hours worked outside the employee's normally scheduled shift due to a shift trade. 19.2.4. Only hours spent in class or in a training session shall be compensated. 19.2.5. Attendance at all non-mandatory classes/training sessions must be approved prior by the Training Chief or designee. 19.2.6. When attendance at non-mandatory classes or training sessions are approved by the Training Chief or designee, the District shall pay for tuition/registration fees, travel costs, lodging, and other related costs.
