Effect of Absence (Full-time. If a nurse's absence without pay from the Home including absences under Article 12, Leaves of Absence, exceeds thirty (30) continuous calendar days the nurse will not accumulate seniority or service for any purposes under the Collective Agreement for the period of the absence in excess of thirty (30) continuous calendar days unless otherwise provided and the nurse will become responsible for full payment of any subsidized employee benefits in which she or he is entitled to participate during the period of absence. In the case of unpaid approved leaves of absence in excess of thirty (30) continuous calendar days a nurse may arrange with the Employer to prepay the full premium of any applicable subsidized benefits during the period of leave in excess of thirty (30) continuous calendar days to ensure continuing coverage. Notwithstanding this provision, seniority shall accrue if a nurse's absence is due to disability resulting in W.S.I.B. benefits or L.T.D. benefits including the period of the disability program covered by Employment Insurance. Notwithstanding this provision, seniority and service will accrue and the Employer will continue to pay the premiums for benefit plans for nurses for a period of up to seventeen (17) weeks while a nurse is on pregnancy leave under Article 12.05 and for a period of up to thirty-five (35) weeks while a nurse is on parental leave under Article 12.06. Seniority and service will accrue and the Employer will continue to pay the premiums for benefit plans for a parent who did not take pregnancy leave for a period of up to fifty-two (52) weeks while such nurse is on a parental leave under Article 12.06.

Effect of Absence (Full-time. Unless otherwise provided in this Collective Agreement: It is understood that, during an approved unpaid absence not exceeding thirty (30) continuous days or any approved absence paid by the Hospital, both seniority and service will accrue. During an unpaid absence exceeding (30) continuous calendar days, credit for service for purposes of salary increment, vacation, sick leave, or any other benefits under any provisions of the Collective Agreement or elsewhere, shall be suspended for the period of the absence in excess of thirty (30) continuous calendar days, the benefits concerned appropriately reduced on a pro rata basis and the employee's anniversary date adjusted accordingly, in addition, the employee will become responsible for full payment of subsidized employee benefits in which is participating for the period of the absence except that the Hospital will continue to pay its share of the premiums for up to eighteen (18) months while an employee is in receipt of benefits. Notwithstanding this provision, service shall accrue for a period of fifteen (15) weeks if an employee's absence is due to disability resulting in benefits. Effective October the Hospital will continue to pay its share of the premiums up to thirty (30) months while an employee is in receipt of or benefits. Such payment shall also continue while an employee is on sick leave (including the Employment Insurance Period) to a maximum of thirty (30) months from the time the absence commenced. It is further understood that, during such unpaid absence, credit for seniority for purposes of promotion, demotion, transfer or layoff shall be suspended and not accrue during the period of absence. Notwithstanding this provision, seniority shall accrue for a period of eighteen (18) months if an employee's absence is due to disability resulting in benefits or benefits, or for a period of one (1) year if an employee's unpaid absence is due to an illness. Effective October seniority shall accrue for a period of thirty (30) months if an employee's absence is due to a disability resulting in or benefits or while an employee is on sick leave (including the Employment Insurance Period) Part-Time Effective February part-time employees shall accrue seniority for a period of eighteen (18) months and service for a period of fifteen (15) weeks if absent due to a disability resulting in benefits, on the basis of what the employee's normal regular hours of work would have been.
