Leave of Absence for Full. Part-time Union Duties An Employee who is selected for a full/part-time position with the Union shall be granted leave of absence without pay or benefits but without loss of seniority for a period of up to two (2) years provided that if such leave of absence extends beyond one (1) month the Employer will maintain benefits where there is an agreement from the Union to reimburse the Employer for premiums and provided further that a written request for such leave is made with as much notice as is reasonably practical.
Leave of Absence for Full time Union or Public Duties
7.4,1 The Employer recognizes the right of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon thirty (30) calendar days written request, the Employer shall allow leave of absence without pay but without loss of benefits for the "official campaign period" so that an employee may be a candidate in Federal or Provincial election, or up to thirty (30) days so that an employee may be a candidate in a Municipal election.
7.4,2 An employee who is elected to public office shall be allowed a leave of absence during her/his term of office for a period of up to two (2) years. The employee so selected shall give thirty (30) days written notice. The employee shall be allowed to continue with all of the benefit plans of this Agreement, and she/he shall pay the full premium of these plans. Further leave shall be granted by mutual agreement. An employee returning from such leave shall be entitled to return to work.
7.4,3 Upon written thirty (30) calendar days request an employee who is elected or appointed for a full-time position to the Union, or any body with which the Union is affiliated, shall be granted a leave of absence without pay for up to one (1) year, subject to extension by mutual agreement. All of the benefit plans of this Agreement shall be afforded to the employee during this leave, provided she/he assumes payment of the full premium of these plans.
7.4,4 Notice of intention to return, or to renew, shall be given by the employee at least sixty (60) calendar days in advance of the expire of leave.
Leave of Absence for Full. Time Union or Public Duties
(a) The Employer recognizes the right of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon written request, the Employer will allow leave of absence without pay and without loss of benefits and seniority so that the employee may be a candidate in federal, provincial, first nations or other Indigenous or municipal elections.
(b) An employee who is elected to public office will be allowed leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority during their terms of office.
(c) An employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union, or anybody to which the Union is affiliated, will be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority for one year and such leave will be renewed, on request.
(d) Long-term leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority will be granted to an employee who is elected to the position of President or Treasurer of the B.C. General Employees' Union.
Leave of Absence for Full time Union or Public Duties
a) An Employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union or any labour body with which the Union is affiliated shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence for a period of up to one year. Such leave shall be renewed for each year during the terms of office. Persons taking leave under this Article shall continue to accumulate seniority during the course of the leave.
b) Employees on such leave for more than two continuous years, shall accumulate seniority for the first two years only. Seniority shall be restored on return to work.
Leave of Absence for Full. Time Union/Public Duties/Professional Association
a) An Employee who is elected, selected or appointed for a full time position with the Union or any labour body with which the Union is affiliated shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence without loss of seniority for the term of office. Such leave may be renewed each year during the term of office.
b) An Employee who is offered and accepts, selected or appointed to public office shall be granted unpaid leave of absence without loss of seniority for the term of public office.
c) An Employee who is elected, selected or appointed for a full time position with a Health Care professional association shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence without loss of seniority for the term of office. Such leave may be renewed each year during the term of office.
Leave of Absence for Full time Union or Public Duties
a) Upon written request, one (1) month in advance, the Employer shall grant leave of absence without pay up to six (6) months in duration, so that employees may be candidates in a federal, provincial or municipal election.
b) An employee who is elected to public office shall be granted a leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority to serve his term of office.
c) An employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union, or any body with which the Union is affiliated, shall be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority for a period of one (1) year. Such leave shall be renewed each year, on request, during his term of office.
Leave of Absence for Full time Union President
(a) An Employee who declares their intention to offer forth e position of President of the Union shall notify the Employer as soon as possible after declaring their intention to seek the office of President.
(b) An Employee elected or appointed as President of the Union shall be given a leave of absence without pay for the term she is to serve up to a maximum of three (3) years.
(c) Notwithstanding article 20.3(b), a leave of absence for a second (2nd) and subsequent consecutive term shall be granted where operational requirements permit.
(d) For the purpose of article 20.3(b) and 20.3(c), the leave of absence shall commence on June 1 and end on May 31.
(e) All benefits of the Employee shall continue in effect while the Employee is serving as President, and, for such purposes, the Employee shall be deemed to be in the employ of the Employer.
(f) Notwithstanding paragraphs 20.3(b) and 20.3(e), the gross salary of the President shall be determined by the Union and paid to the President by the Employer, and the amount of this gross salary shall be reimbursed to the Employer by the Union.
(g) On expiration the Employee shall be reinstated in the position they held immediately prior to the commencement of leave, or in a position mutually agreed upon by the Employee and the Employer, at a salary level commensurate with the position previously held.
(h) Notwithstanding paragraph 20.3(b) or any provision of the Collective Agreement to the contrary, the period of leave of absence shall be deemed to be continuous service and employment with the Employer for all purposes.
(i) Notwithstanding the provisions of the Collective Agreement, vacation earned but not used prior to taking office shall be carried over to be taken in the fiscal year in which the Employee returns from leave of absence. The Employee will not earn vacation while on a leave of absence.
(j) The Union shall reimburse to the Employer the Employer's share of contribution for E.I. premiums, Canada Pension Plan, group insurance premiums and any other benefits made on behalf of the Employee during the period of leave of absence.
Leave of Absence for Full time Union or Public Duties
7. 4, 1 The Employer recognizes the r ight of an employee to participate in public affairs. Therefore, upon thirty ( 30) calendar days written request, the Employer shall allow leave of absence without pay but without loss of benefits for the " official campaign pe riod" so that an employee may be a candidate in Federal or Provincial election, or up to thirty ( 30 ) days so that an employee may be a candidate in a Municipal election. An employee can also take an unpaid leave to participate in another candidate’ s election during their campaign period.

(b) An employee who is elected to public office shall be allowed leave of absence without pay or benefits, but with no loss of seniority for one (1) year during her term(s) of office.
(c) An employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union, or any body with which the Union is affiliated, shall be granted leave of absence without pay or benefits but with no loss of seniority for a period of one (1) year. Such leave shall be renewed each year without seniority, on request, during her term(s) of office.

Therefore, upon written request, the Employer shall allow leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority so that an employee may be a candidate in a federal or provincial election. An employee who is elected to public office shall be allowed leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority during his term of office.
