Measuring Length of Service. For the purpose of determining preference for retention, where applicable (i.e., comparable evaluations) length of continuous service in employment with the District will be measured on the basis of the length of actual uninterrupted service without regard to the particular number of hours or days worked by employees during the period of service. Length of continuous service will not be interrupted or affected by authorized leaves of absence with pay or authorized leaves of absence without pay for illness or disability, including pregnancy. Leaves of absence without pay other than for illness or disability, including pregnancy, will result in a proportionate decrease in length of continuous service. The continuous service of an employee who has returned to employment following resignation or other termination of employment will be measured from the date of return.

Persons who are contracted to be at school four (4) hours or more per day for the number of maximum workdays per year as delineated in Article IV, Teaching Year, or equivalent, shall be credited with one (1) year experience for each year under contract. Persons contracted for less than listed above shall be credited with one-half (1/2) year experience for each year under contract. Such crediting shall be exclusively for application to this article (RIF) of this Contract. All credits earned prior to September 1, 1980, shall be retained. Periods of time on authorized leave of absence shall count towards an employee's continuous service in the district, provided that no employee shall be credited with more than one (1) year on continuous service for time spent on unpaid leave(s) due to reasons other than physical disability. Beginning September 1, 1992, time spent on inactive pay status (unpaid leave or layoff) shall not contribute to the accrual of seniority, but shall not constitute a break in seniority. The continuous service of an employee who has returned to employment following resignation or other termination of employment will be measured from the date of return.

SENIORITY LIST The Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee shall send electronically an annual seniority list to the President of the PCTA by December 15 of each year. Employees shall have fifteen (15) workdays to challenge to the Superintendent in writing any possible inaccuracies contained in the list. If such adjustment is valid, a new list shall be posted immediately. An additional (15) fifteen days will be allocated for subsequent adjustments. If there are not challenges to the list within (15) fifteen days, the list shall be considered final until the posting. REINSTATEMENT Teachers whose contracts are suspended will have a right of restoration in the order of seniority of service in the District if and when teaching positions become vacant or are created for which any of the teachers are certified/licensed. Teachers on limited contracts remain on the recall list for one (1) full school year and through August 15. Teachers on continuing contracts remain on the recall list for two (2) full years and through August 15. The employee is obligated to keep the District advised in writing of a telephone number and mailing address at which he/she can be reached.
