Promotional Salary Placement. When a permanent unit member is promoted, salary placement will result in at least a one (1) range increase above the salary schedule of the position held prior to promotion. The promotional salary shall result in an increase of no less than two and one half percent (2 ½%).

Promotional Salary Placement. Upon appointment or promotion, a teacher will be placed on the proper step of the salary schedule according to experience and preparation and maintained on the proper salary position according to the same criteria. Long-term substitutes who have served one complete school year shall be placed upon the salary schedule based upon their unbroken service.
Promotional Salary Placement. A regular employee who receives a promotion to a higher classification shall be placed on the step of the salary range that is 5% or more above the employee’s current range and step, including the Professional Growth stipend (as applicable). Longevity pay is not included in the determination of this step. Once this promotional step placement is determined, all longevity pay will then be applied to calculate the employee’s monthly compensation. An employee who believes that he/she should be placed above Step 1 shall request a review of the promotional salary placement by submitting the “Classified Initial Salary Placement Request” Form (Appendix M) to the Vice President of Human Resources or designee within thirty (30) days of the start date. Step placement shall be based on the following:
Promotional Salary Placement. A classified employee who is promoted to a Classified position at a higher grade shall be placed on the step of the new range that results in the employee receiving at least a 5% increase. However, Human Resources may determine that placement shall be on a step that results in more than a 5% increase based on internal equity as defined in Article 15.2. No employee will be placed beyond the top of the range.

Additional salary increases within the range shall be in accordance with the principle set forth in B. above, with the first increase on the first day of the pay period following the date that the employee’s total actual hours in a paid status equals thirteen (13) pay periods of full-time service rendered by him to the County in the same class. When the normal promotion or reclassification of an employee to a higher class would result in a salary increase of less than 5%, the salary of such employee will be adjusted to the step in the new range which is at least 5% higher than the present salary rate, or the maximum salary for the class, whichever is less.
Promotional Salary Placement. Effective July 1, 2023, employees hired into promotional (higher salary range) positions under this collective bargaining agreement, shall be placed at a step of the new range which reflects a minimum ten percent (10%) increase in the employee’s base salary. If the salary placement does not amount to ten percent (10%) increase, the employee will be placed at the maximum step of the new salary range.

For reclassifications and promotions, additional ranges being received temporarily by an employee (acting supervisor, working out of class, etc.) are not included in the calculation for step placement.

If placing the employee at the bottom of the range does not result in at least a 5% increase, the employee will be placed on the step that results in the employee receiving at least a 5% increase. However, if the employee has, as determined by the hiring supervisor, substantial experience in work related to that which the employee is being hired to perform, the employee may be granted two additional steps. The employee may be granted three or more steps with the approval of the President or Executive Officer. In circumstances where an employee is placed at a higher step, the Human Resources Department will review the salary placement of current employees in the same job classification and department to determine if they are appropriately placed. If they are not appropriately placed, their salary will be adjusted. No employee will be placed beyond the top of the range as a result of a promotion.‌
Promotional Salary Placement. Placement after promotion will be consistent with 4271.3 of the Classified Personnel Rules and Regulations (Step 1 or the Step that represents not less than 5% salary increase). Longevity, if appropriate, shall be added to the promotional salary placement.
