Research Faculty. Notice of non-reappointment for any Research faculty member shall be no less than thirty (30) days before the expiration of an appointment.

Research Faculty. Research faculty members employed by the University on February 15, 2019 and still employed in the bargaining unit as a research faculty member on July 1, 2019 shall be eligible for performance based salary increases up to an overall maximum of 9%, subject to the review by the Xxxx who will determine what increase if any the faculty member will receive in accordance with the annual performance review undertaken using established annual performance guidelines. The 9% can be exceeded in a year for a Research faculty member in the following circumstances: (a) if a promotion increment is the factor causing the increase to exceed 9%; (b) if there are exceptional circumstances as defined in Article 18.6. In all cases, these awards are contingent upon the funds being available for the compensation increase in the grant, institute, endowment, or other sources of funding for the year in which payment is to be made. Any such awards under this section must also be consistent with effort reporting requirements and federal cost principles.
Research Faculty. This category of faculty may be appointed to any department/school or college based on external funding. The function of Research Faculty members is to dedicate their full professional commitment to research (and associated educational activities) in their department and college, under the terms of the grant or contract which provides their support. The salary, fringe benefits and indirect costs for these positions shall be paid from a grant, contract, or other soft money source. Research Faculty ranks are: Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, and Research Professor. (1) The search process and the initial appointment/selection shall be at the administration’s sole discretion and design. The bargaining unit members of the department/school or college without departments shall approve the initial appointment rank only. The Xxxx will forward his/her recommendation regarding the appointment to the Xxxxxxx who makes the decision. (2) The Research Faculty member shall be eligible for rank and promotion on the basis of the following criteria: (a) Research faculty shall possess the terminal degree in accord with the applicable provisions in the current collective bargaining agreement. (b) Minimum standards for appointment at each faculty rank, in addition to the criterion of an earned doctorate specified above: (i) Research Assistant Professor. Appointment to the rank of assistant professor shall be based on evidence indicating a record of effectiveness and achievements in conducting research or creative activities. (ii) Research Associate Professor. Appointment or promotion to the rank of associate professor is based on evidence that the candidate possesses a sustained record of research or creative activities. In addition, the candidate shall demonstrate independence in the attainment of funding.

Research Faculty. In certain disciplines, faculty members may be appointed whose primary responsibilities lie in research rather than teaching. Such faculty members shall be ranked as follows: Research Professor; Research Associate Professor, and Research Assistant Professor. Such ranks shall be the equivalent, respectively, of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Lecturer, and the same professional qualifications shall be considered minimal for initial appointments and promotions to rank; however, more emphasis shall be placed upon a faculty member’s research abilities and publications than teaching experience when considering such faculty member for initial appointment, promotion, tenure, or reappointment.
Research Faculty. The provisions of this article apply to non-tenure-track research faculty employed to contribute primarily to the research mission of the institution and who have salaried appointments of more than twenty (20) hours per week (greater than 50% FTE) that exceed or are expected to exceed one (1) year in duration and are supported on non-general revenue funds. Non-tenure- track research faculty shall not be tenured and are not eligible for tenure or permanent status.

Appointees should have a record of outstanding scholarly production in research, publications, professional achievements or exhibit excellence in research leadership. Move to Sabbatical Article: Only faculty members fully funded on general revenue funds shall be counted in determining the number of FTE continuing faculty eligible for sabbatical leave. f. Non-reappointment of non-tenure track research faculty shall occur when extramural grant funding ends. Appointment of a non-tenure track research faculty shall end if the faculty does not fulfill the obligations of a grant. g. Non-tenure track faculty may participate in all department and/or college matters other than those explicitly excluded in this Article with the approval of the Department and/or the College as appropriate. h. Non-tenure track assistant research professors shall be reviewed annually. Non-tenure track associate research professors shall be reviewed every other year except that an annual review shall be conducted whenever requested by the faculty, department chair, or Xxxx. The employment contract shall also determine the available insurance/health and other benefits (Article 17), leaves of absence (Article 18), participation in the student fee authorization program (Article 20), and legal protection (Article 28). 4. At the time of initial appointment, the following provisions of the collective bargaining agreement apply to a Research Faculty member even though the Research Faculty member is not a member of the bargaining unit: academic freedom (Article 10 and Article 11.1), patents and copyrights (Article 22), professional ethics (Article 11.2), laboratory space (Articles 23.3, 23.4 and 23.5) and personnel files (Article 26). 5. The initial salary placement, subsequent increases/decreases in salary, compensation formulae and incentives, if any, shall be at the administration’s sole discretion, regardless of bargaining unit membership.
