Study Leaves. An unpaid leave of absence of up to one year shall be granted to any full-time teacher who has at least 5 years of full-time teaching service in the School District, upon written application to the Superintendent, for the purpose of engaging in study at a college or university related to his/her teaching responsibilities. Upon return from such leave, a teacher shall be placed at the same position on the salary schedule and shall maintain the same fringe benefits as he/she had prior to taking this leave unless previously discharged or placed on unrequested leave of absence. Failure of the teacher to indicate his/her intent to return by April 1 of the year in which the leave is being taken shall constitute grounds for termination.
Study Leaves. 1. Study leave of one (1) semester with full pay or two (2) semesters at half pay may be granted by the Employer to full-time Faculty Members in the I-2 classification at the end of five (5) years' service with the provision that such leaves will be utilized in advanced study. 2. Study leave of three (3) months with full pay or six (6) months at half pay may be granted by the Employer to full-time Faculty Members in Rank 2 of the R, S, B, and A classifications at the end of five (5) years' service with the provision that such leaves will be utilized in advanced study. 3. If a study leave is taken, no time served in the lower Rank can be used to apply toward a future sabbatical leave. Also, the time actually spent on study leave cannot be applied toward a sabbatical leave. 4. Each Faculty Member who applies for a study leave shall submit through the appropriate Program Director, Department or Division Chair to the Xxxx or Director/Vice Chancellor a description or narrative of the educational or study program to which the Faculty Member proposes to devote the leave along with the reasons for undertaking such a program while on leave. The Xxxx/Director shall note a recommendation on each application and shall forward each to the Chancellor. All requests for study leave must be in the hands of the Xxxx/Director or Chancellor at least six (6) months (one (1) academic semester for instructional staff) before the effective date. 5. In evaluating applications for study leave, at least the following shall be considered: a. That no additional positions will be necessary and that the work of the department or unit will be done satisfactorily; b. That the purpose of the leave is mutually beneficial to the Faculty Member and the University; c. The nature, length, and pertinency of the educational program which the Faculty Member plans to undertake; d. That the Faculty Member's absence will not adversely affect the operations of the University; and e. The Faculty Member's contribution to the University, demonstrated potential for growth and development, and seniority (continuous length of service with the University). 6. The Faculty Member must agree to return to the University of Hawaii for at least one (1) year thereafter. 7. In order to give non-instructional Faculty Members an opportunity to attend professional meetings, visit research centers, or observe field practices while away from the State on vacation leave, the Employer may grant leaves of absence with pay f...
Study Leaves. A leave for the purpose of upgrading academic qualifications, normally through the attainment of a higher degree or some other equivalent acceptable to the University and the Unit shall be known as Study Leave. Such leave must be in the best interests of the University. The maximum length of leaves to be granted during a Member's academic career shall normally not exceed two (2) years.
Study Leaves. Study leaves must be requested in writing to the Human Resources Department at least two (2) months (forty (40) work days) prior to the proposed start date of the leave. Any leave of absence granted under this section shall not be deemed a break in service for any purpose, except such leave shall not be included as service in computing service for the granting of any subsequent leave under this type of leave, nor shall unit members earn vacation pay, sick leave, holiday pay, pay step, or other benefits provided under this agreement.
Study Leaves. The District may grant a unit member an unpaid leave of absence to pursue educational improvement and advancement. Such leave shall be subject to Board approval for a minimum of one school year. A teacher shall apply to the District for such leave no later than one semester before its anticipated commencement.

Study leaves shall be for the purpose of permitting study or individual projects which will improve the skills and knowledge required of employees in their assignments and will directly benefit the schools and pupils of Marin County. Administrative/Support Staff employees may apply for study leaves after three (3) consecutive years of employment by the Marin County Office of Education. Study leaves may be granted for a period of 90 working days or less. Compensation shall be the difference between the salary of the person on leave and the rate for Substitute Teacher - Regular. Administrative/Support Staff employees on study leave of absence are eligible to retain fringe benefits by paying necessary premiums to the Marin County Office of Education. In case of injury or illness of the employee during a study leave which prevents his/her completing the purpose of the leave, the study leave will be terminated and all provisions for sick leave shall apply. In the event of the death of the employee while on study leave, no repayment of salary will be required of his/her estate. The Superintendent shall prepare administrative regulations and procedures to implement this policy. The absence of the Administrative/Support Staff employee may not have an adverse effect on the programs or services of the Marin County Office of Education.

Study Leaves. Teachers who are granted leave for study shall return at the completion of that leave at a salary level in accordance with service credit earned at the time the leave was granted. On his/her return, he/she should file an official college transcript showing that he/she has completed at least ten (10) semester hours of credit each semester, or ten (10) quarter hours each quarter (except during the summer) in a university or college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or equivalent agencies. Employees wishing release for one (1) or more of the last three (3) days before the end of the spring semester in June, in order to attend an accredited summer school session or to depart for an accredited summer tour, must submit a form provided by the District (Form 4117) for such purpose, to Human Resources. Conditions for considering approval are: 1. College credit must be earned. 2. Employees leaving early for one of the above purposes must submit transcripts of their credits earned not later than October 1 to Human Resources.
