Rest Periods and Lunch Breaks. Section 1. A rest period of fifteen (15) minutes shall be permitted for all employees for each full half work shift. Such rest periods shall normally be on a scheduled basis so that activities of the department shall be staffed at all times. It is a joint responsibility of management and the employee to schedule rest periods. Employees who are having difficulty scheduling a rest period should meet with their supervisor to schedule an appropriate break time. Section 2. All employees shall be granted an unpaid lunch period to be taken in the middle of each work shift. Unpaid lunch periods shall not be less than thirty (30) minutes nor more than one (1) hour in duration. Section 3. An employee engaged in work requiring that they remain in their work area during the entire work shift shall be granted a lunch period with pay. Section 4. Subject to the physical structure of the building and the operating needs of the county, and whenever possible, employees shall be provided with lunchroom facilities.

Rest Periods and Lunch Breaks. 181. For the health and safety of covered employees, a fifteen (15) minute break from reporting will be provided at least every ninety (90) minutes. Break time is included within the 40 hour work week and the employee is compensated for break time. Therefore, breaks not taken during the appropriate period cannot be taken on other days or accumulated. As the employee is already compensated for break time, the absence of a break does not constitute time owed to the employee for the purposes of the calculation of overtime or compensating time off. Exceptions to the number and length of breaks may be modified occasionally, pursuant to operational needs of the Court.

The lunch period is included in the 40-hour work week for night shift employees and day shift employees working on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only, as they are expected to remain in the building and be available for coverage during their entire assigned shift.

Rest Periods and Lunch Breaks. 11.4.1 Rest periods shall be taken, insofar as practical, in the middle of each work period. Rest period time shall be based on the total hours worked daily, at the rate of fifteen (15) minutes per four (4) hours work or major fraction thereof. A rest period shall not be required for employees whose total daily work time is less than three and one-half (3 1/2) hours. Rest period time shall be counted as hours worked. 11.4.2 Employees shall receive a lunch period of one-half (1/2) hour without pay. Meal time breaks shall be one- half hour and not compensated for nor counted as hours worked under the provisions of this Agreement, except where meal breaks are currently longer and/or compensated, they shall be continued. If an employee works fewer than four (4) hours on any workday, the one-half hour mealtime break shall not be deducted from the employee's hours of work for that day, nor shall the mealtime break be taken.

The Company shall provide suitable and sufficient restrooms for employees. 11.02 When employees are requested to work overtime and it is continuous with their regular hours, they shall be entitled to a fifteen (15) minute paid rest period before commencing overtime which is expected to last one (1) hour or more. If, however, the overtime is in excess of two (2) hours including the rest period, the employees shall receive a one-half (½) hour unpaid lunch break and a meal provided by the Company. This meal break is to be taken at the end of the first two (2) hours of overtime. If, however, overtime is worked not continuous with regular working hours, employees shall receive their regular rest breaks as set out in Article 11.01. 11.03 All employees shall be entitled to a one-half (½) hour unpaid lunch break approximately midway during their shift.

  • Rest Periods All employees shall have two (2), fifteen (15) minute rest periods in each work period in excess of six (6) hours, one (1) rest period to be granted before and one (1) after the meal period. Employees working a shift of three and one-half (3½) hours, but not more than six (6) hours, shall receive one (1) rest period during such a shift.
