Compensating Time Off. At the time an employee is required or requested to work overtime, the employee may opt for compensating time off at the applicable overtime rate in lieu of overtime pay. If an employee opts for compensating time off in lieu of overtime pay, the time shall be taken at a time mutually agreed to by the employee and the Employer and shall be taken within 24 calendar weeks of the occurrence of the overtime. The Employer will make a reasonable effort to allow time off when requested by the employee. If such time off is not taken by the end of the 24 week period, overtime at the applicable overtime rate shall be paid on the employee's next regular paycheque.

Compensating Time Off. (a) When employees are required to work overtime, they elect at the time of working such overtime, whether to be paid for it or to receive compensating time in lieu. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, if any overtime payment is earned as a result of work performed for which the City has initiated a Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) task number, the employee must receive payment for such work. Should an actual PEP claim not be submitted or not be approved, a regular full time employee may have the process reversed for that incident; that is, the employee must reimburse the City for the full amount of the overtime payment in exchange for compensating time in lieu. Reversal will occur only if written authorization of such action is provided to Payroll by the employee within the payroll period immediately following the date notice is provided to the employee such claim has not been submitted or not approved. (b) An employee who elects to receive compensating time off, shall be credited with compensating time off equivalent to the number of hours which would have been paid for the overtime worked, and, subject to an employee's request to be granted compensating time off being approved by the employee's department head (or delegate), such employee shall be granted any portion of the compensating time off credit at the pay rate or rates in effect at the time the overtime in question was worked.
Compensating Time Off. 12.01 Certain positions are recognized as not conforming to the standard daily hours. These positions may work hours other than the standard daily hours, but shall not exceed forty (40) hours per week, Monday to Friday inclusive. Any employees in said positions who work in excess of forty hours per week shall receive compensating time off at a rate of double (X2) time off for each hour worked in excess of forty (40) hours. If an employee is required to work during the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) the employee shall have the right to take compensating time off or be paid the prevailing overtime rate. Methods of compensation for weekend work shall be arranged by the employee with the supervisor in charge prior to working the extra time and shall be approved in writing by a supervisor so authorized.
Compensating Time Off. (1) CTO is required for employees under the following circumstances: (a) When in travel status not connected with enforcement duties, i.e., travel to or from the Academy or other school for the purpose of training. (2) Employees' CTO balances shall not exceed 480 hours. (3) CTO may be used only in units of 1/4 hour or multiples thereof. (4) The time when CTO may be taken shall be at the discretion of the employee's commander. (5) There is no time limit within which CTO earned must be used.

Compensating Time Off. A. Consistent with the provisions of Section 1 above, employees may be credited with compensating time off for overtime worked up to a maximum accrual of 100 hours, upon prior request of the employee and approval of the department director. B. Compensating time off credits may be accumulated up to 100 "converted hours". Exceptions to exceed this maximum may be authorized by the Human Resources Director on request by the employee and approval of the Department Director under conditions set by the Human Resources Director. C. An employee shall be allowed to use compensating time off in increments of fifteen (15) minutes or more which may be taken in conjunction with vacation credits. Time off approval and scheduling shall be subject to the provisions of Article 3 of these articles. D. Written requests to use compensatory time off shall be treated in the same manner as requests to use vacation. An employee will not be required to take compensatory time earned at straight time hour nor will an employee be required to take compensatory time within the same pay period as earned. E. Once each fiscal year, an employee may by written request cash out up to eighty (80) banked compensatory time hours.
Compensating Time Off. (a) At the time timecards or timesheets are collected, the employee may advise in writing of their preference to receive compensating time off at the applicable overtime rate, or to receive payment at the applicable overtime rate, or to receive a combination of compensating time off and overtime pay. (b) If an employee opts to take any compensating time off, such time off shall be scheduled by mutual agreement and shall normally be scheduled no later than their next scheduled vacation period upon submission of the written request. (c) If compensating time off is not scheduled before the next scheduled vacation period, the employee shall be paid at the applicable overtime rate on the payday preceding their vacation. (d) In extenuating circumstances, an employee who has elected to take compensating time off may, instead, elect to receive overtime pay to be paid on the payday that follows the submission of the pay request. The deadline for such requests shall be 4:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding the regular pay delivery date.
