School Meals. If any parent considers that they might be entitled to Free School Meals for their child, (i.e. on Income Support) please ask at the School Office for an application form. As children line up for their school meals, a member of staff with a Tablet computer will record them. This will enable them to know exactly which children have had a school lunch each day, and eliminate any errors. Parents can pay online by setting up an account. Under this new system, if a child’s account goes unpaid for three weeks, you will receive a phone call and a letter and the system will automatically no longer allow them to have school meals. If this happens, you will need to provide a packed lunch for them. If debt goes over £34.50, you will need to provide a packed lunch for your child until the debt is paid. If your child is in Year 6, your account must be in credit at all times, otherwise the system will not allow them to have a school meal and a packed lunch must be provided. It is therefore very important that you make sure that you are up to date with school meal payments. If you think your child is eligible for Free School Meals, you must ensure that you have applied and have received confirmation that you qualify. • To monitor the school meals debt and inform parents accordingly • To set up an online account to pay for school meals • To pay for meals on a weekly basis • Where possible, keep to either packed lunches or school dinners every day, to avoid confusion about payments • If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, to collect an application form for completion We have a policy at Brentside of making sure that children experience one school trip or workshop a term wherever possible. Our educational trips and workshops are usually related to topics studied in the curriculum. In order for school trips and events to take place, it is necessary for us to ask for contributions from parents and carers before we make the final decision as to whether the event or visit can take place. We aim to keep the cost of the visit as low as possible. It is the policy of this school, for health and safety purposes, to provide transport for our pupils and staff. The cost of the transport is included in the overall cost of the event or visit. Where possible, BPA will try to subsidise the cost of trips to make sure they are accessible to as many pupils as possible. Parents are not obliged to pay the contribution towards costs; however, the visit cannot take place if the expenses...

Once a student has charged those six meals, the student will not be allowed to charge additional meals or a la carte items. However, the student will be offered an alternate meal. Students who qualify to receive free meals will be allowed to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. A la carte items must be paid for at the time of purchase. Students who qualify to receive reduced meals will be allowed to receive one breakfast for 30 cents and one lunch for 40 cents each day. A student will be allowed to charge up to six meals to his or her account. Once a student has charged those six meals, the student will not be allowed to charge additional meals or a la carte items. Notices of low or deficit balances will be sent to parents/guardians at regular intervals throughout the school year. Checks must be made payable to the student’s school. School Meals. A variety of items are sold ranging from sandwiches and baguettes, salads and fruit, hot meals and cakes. We have worked with the caterers and the Student Food Group to develop a healthy and varied menu. The canteen at School operates tills with biometric cashless payment systems. By the first day your child’s dinner account will have been activated, so that you can load money on to the account. If you have any questions please contact the School Office. A cashless system is used for the payment of school meals, where no cash is taken at the point of sale. Each student using the system is allocated an account. Information is held on a secure server and stores details of individual balances, records where money has been spent, on what food and the exact date and time the money was spent. All individuals intending to use the system have their fingerprint scanned. This scan is converted into a number and stored on the system against that individual. No register of fingerprints is kept, and it is impossible to reconstitute a fingerprint from the numeric reference Parents can top-up by Parentpay – the online system, xxx.xxxxxxxxx.xxx. You will receive details of how to access your Parentpay account before the start of term. The student should notify the School Office who will inform the kitchens that the account will go into debit for one day. The account must be credited by the following day. Students buy their meal in the same way. The amount allocated for the free school meal, currently £2.30 per day, is entered onto their account by the software daily, and is only accessible at lunch break. Any underspend or missed lunch is not added to the next day’s balance. Parents can also add extra cash on to the balance by cheque or by using Parentpay, to enable a greater daily spend on the school lunch than allocated by their free meal allowance. As the allowance can only be spent on a school lunch, extra cash added into the system can also be used for breakfast or break time snacks. All students in receipt of this benefit retain complete anonymity.
