Shift Work and Shift Differential. Shift work for inside employees may be instituted whenever, in the opinion of the department head concerned, such work is necessary. Where employees in classes of work for which salaries have been established on the basis of a normal week of daytime work are required to work on shifts, a pay differential shall be applied. Shift differential shall consist of eighty-five cents (85¢) per hour and shall be payable for those hours of a regular shift so worked by an employee outside the exempt hours of work; provided, however, that if more than one-half of the hours of the regular shift so worked fall outside the exempt hours of work, the shift differential shall be applied to the hours worked in the entire regular shift. For the purpose of this Clause 4.3, exempt hours of work means the normal hours of work defined in Clause 4.1.1 standard work day and work week, together with the hour immediately preceding and the hour immediately following such normal hours of work. That is, the normal hours of work are from 08:30 h to 16:30 h and therefore the exempt hours of work shall be those hours from 07:30 h to 17:30 h. Shift differential shall not apply to certain positions or position classes as set out in Schedule "B" and additions thereto by mutual agreement of the parties hereto. The following provision shall apply in lieu of the above paragraphs 4.3.1 - 4.3.4 for employees working at the Burnaby Village Museum: Regular Full-Time, Temporary Full-Time and Regular Part-Time Clerical, Display Technician, Grounds Attendant and Janitorial employees shall be paid a shift differential of eighty-five cents (85¢) per hour and shall be payable for those hours of a regular shift worked by such employee outside the exempt hours of work, provided, however, that if more than one-half of the hours of the regular shift so worked fall outside the exempt hours of work, the shift differential shall be applied to the hours of work in the entire regular shift. Shift Work and Shift Differential. (a) We herein set forth the type of work that shall be considered eligible for shifts:
(1) For Inside Employees the preparation of tax notices. Said shifts may be instituted during the months of May, June and December of each year, and may be in two (2), seven and three‐quarter (7¾) hour non‐broken shifts, lunch time excluded, commencing not before 7:00 a.m. and continuing not beyond 10:00 p.m.
(2) For Outside Employees the construction, preparation and paving of roads. Salting and sanding of roads for control of frost and black ice shall also be deemed to be covered by this section. Said shifts may be instituted during late spring, summer and early fall, when maximum daylight hours are available and shall consist of not more than two (2), eight (8) hour non‐broken shifts, lunch time excluded, between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
(1) Shift work shall take place Monday to Friday only.
(2) A change of shift shall not occur before 15½ hours after the end of the employee's last regular scheduled shift. Any employee called out during the 15½ hours shall be paid on the basis of the overtime rate.
(c) Where employees in classes of work for which salaries or wages have been established on the basis of a normal week of daytime work are required to work on shifts, a pay differential shall be applied.
Shift Work and Shift Differential. (a) We herein set forth the type of work that shall be considered eligible for shifts: Effective 2018 April 17:
(1) snow removal. Such shifts shall not be more than twelve (12) consecutive hours, lunch time excluded. The provisions of Article 9, Section 3 shall apply to any overtime hours worked.
(2) the salting and sanding of roads for control of frost and black ice. Such shifts shall not be more than eight (8) consecutive hours, lunch time excluded, between the hours of 5:30
a. m. and 10:30 p.m.

Shift Work and Shift Differential. 5.3.1 Shift Differential and Shift Work for 35 and 37.5 Hour Workers - General
(a) Shift work shall not be implemented for a period of 3 working days or less. If the working period is 3 days or less, the appropriate premium rate will be paid for the minimum 3-day period.
(b) The Company will provide 72 hours' (3 calendar days) posted notice of the commencement and termination of a shift. Failure to provide such notice will require a penalty payment of premium rates for all changed hours of work within the notice period.
(c) Such a placing on shift work shall not deprive an employee of his/her total number of normal scheduled weekly hours.
(d) Revision to the work schedule shall provide for a minimum of 15 hours off between shifts. Failure to provide such time off will require the penalty payment for the first affected shift.
(e) Shift differential shall apply to employees required to work on a 3-shift schedule or a 2-shift schedule and shall not apply for overtime hours.
(f) Shift work will be scheduled on a Monday to Friday basis.
(g) Work in excess of the total number of normal daily hours will be paid at the appropriate overtime rates.
(h) The following shift differentials shall apply:
(i) Seventy-five (75) cents per hour to employees scheduled to work between the hours of 1600 and 2400.
(ii) One dollar and five (1.05) cents per hour to employees scheduled to work between the hours of 0000 and 0800.
(i) Regular part-time and temporary part-time employees will not be eligible for shift differential when the shift starts and ends between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00.
