Accrued Days Off (ADO’s). The Company is prepared to sit down and discuss a 38 -hour week, 19 day month with Accrued Days Off provided the parties can ensure that productivity levels are increased on the 19 days of work to make up for the absence on the 20th day. The parties agree that during the life of this agreement, an ADO system will be discussed, agreement reached and implemented. Current hours are to remain until agreement is reached. The Union acknowledges that staff will then have to work an extra half of one hour per week to increase their hours of work to 38 hours per week, plus the additional 24 minutes per day towards an Accrued Day Off. The parties will examine output measurements such as tonnage rates, other rates of production to ensure this is achieved consistently and regularly monitored. The ADO situation will have to be managed on an individual basis, and there will be no general closedown of the factory on the 20th day. Whilst every reasonable effort will be made for ADO’s to coincide with a weekend, the primary driver of taking time off will be the need to meet production requirements which may require taking of ADO’s during mid week. Draft procedures for taking an ADO are attached as Appendix 3.

Accrued Days Off (ADO’s). 24.1. In addition to annual leave, Australian Progress Employees accrue eight (8) days pro-rata of leave over a twelve (12) month period, called accrued days off (ADO’s). 24.2. ADO’s are provided in recognition that Employees may need to work additional hours at key moments throughout the year of approximately 2.8 hours pro-rata per fortnight on average (calculated excluding public holidays, annual leave, ADO’s, and weekend non-work days). While the expectation is that all Employees should be able to, for the majority of the time, complete their work in ordinary work hours (38 hours pro-rata per week), Australian Progress acknowledges that sometimes Employees will work extra hours to complete the work required. ADO’s will be provided for regardless of whether an Employee works the above outlined average additional hours pro-rata. 24.3. There are two categories of ADO’s:
Accrued Days Off (ADO’s). B8.1 An employee to whom this clause applies is entitled to a day/shift off duty using bankable leave accrued as a result of increasing the employees daily hours of work – e.g. increasing from 7 hours 36 minutes to 8 hours. B8.2 An employee may apply to take an ADO as a whole day or part of a day by agreement with the manager/supervisor. ADOs will be approved by the manager/supervisor subject to operational requirements. If the manager/supervisor does not approve an accrued day off because of operational requirements, the manager/supervisor will consult with the employee to determine a mutually convenient alternative time (or times) for the employee to take the leave. B8.3 Accrual towards an ADO does not occur when an employee is on any form of leave with the exception of annual leave, paid personal leave and compassionate leave. B8.4 ADOs will not be taken in advance and must only be taken when the equivalent time has been accrued. B8.5 An employee may bank a maximum of six !DOs with the approval of the employee’s manager/supervisor. B8.6 For each day or shift an employee is absent on annual leave, paid personal leave or compassionate leave, leave credits will be reduced by the number of ordinary hours that the employee would have worked on that day or shift (including time accrued for the ADO). Each day or shift of paid annual leave, paid personal leave or paid compassionate leave taken during the cycle of shifts will therefore be regarded as a day worked for accrual towards an ADO. B8.7 Where an employee, who has accrued credit towards an ADO, ceases employment with the ACTPS and it is not practical for the employee to utilise that credit, will have the accrued ADO credit paid on separation. The rate at which any unused ADO credit will be paid will be the rate of pay, including any applicable higher duties allowance, that is in effect on the date of separation.
