Bereavement Time Off. An employee shall be granted up to three (3) continuous or non- continuous days of bereavement time off, as requested by the employee, for each death of a family member. Bereavement time off beyond three (3) days may be approved based on individual circumstances, such as relationship of the employee to the deceased family member, employee responsibility for making funeral arrangements, religious reasons and/or distance of travel out of the area. Upon the Employer’s approval, the employee may choose to use the following types of leave for beyond the three (3) days: sick, vacation, compensatory time, holiday credit, or unpaid time off. Family Member is defined in Article 18 Sick Leave.

Bereavement Time Off. A. Where death occurs in the immediate family of an employee, accrued sick leave may be used. Immediate family is defined as, and limited to: the parents, stepparents, grandparents, xxxxxx parents, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, xxxxxx children, cousins, brothers (and their spouses), and sisters (and their spouses) of the employee or spouse, the spouse, spouse equivalent, aunts and uncles of the employee or spouse, sons-in-law or daughters-in-law of the employee or spouse, person(s) for whom the employee is legal guardian, legal guardian(s) of the employee, or other relatives of the employee or spouse residing in the household of the employee. B. Use of accrued sick leave shall normally be used during the seven (7) calendar day period immediately following the death. Where mitigating circumstances require a postponement in funeral arrangements, sick leave may be used at an appropriate later date for directly related purposes. C. Use of sick leave for death in the immediate family for the purposes of this section is limited to a total of three (3) workdays, plus required travel time not to exceed four (4) workdays. D. At the employee’s request, other paid leave time may be used in lieu of sick leave in accordance with 12/5/2A. E. Appropriate use of bereavement leave under this section will not initiate an employee being placed on a review program for unanticipated use of sick leave.
Bereavement Time Off. In the event of the death of a Postdoctoral Scholar’s family member, a Postdoctoral Scholar shall be granted time off with pay. The amount of paid time off shall be only that which is required to attend the funeral and/or make arrangements necessitated by the death, but in no event shall it exceed three (3) days. If additional time off is needed, the Postdoctoral Scholar may request the use of available vacation or sick time off. The Postdoctoral Scholar must inform the supervisor as soon as possible of the need for bereavement time off. Family member is defined in Section 24.6.

Upon the Employer’s approval, the employee may choose to use the following types of time off for beyond the three (3) days: sick, vacation, holiday credit, comp time, personal holiday or unpaid time off. Family members includes biological, adoptive, de facto, or xxxxxx parent, stepparent, or legal guardian of an employee, or a person who stood in loco parentis when the employee was a minor child; sibling, spouse, domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, or child, regardless of age or dependency status, including a biological, adopted or xxxxxx child, stepchild, or a child to whom the employee stands in loco parentis, is a legal guardian, or is a de facto parent. Family members include those persons in a “step” relationship. Family member also includes individuals in the following relationships with the employee’s spouse or domestic partner: child, parent (as defined above), or grandparent.

Bereavement Time Off days of bereavement leave shall be granted for each death of a family member as defined in section 11.2. Sick leave in addition to the three (3) days of bereavement leave may be used for the purpose of bereavement with the approval of the nurse manager.

Bereavement Time Off. Shift work employees will be granted paid leave in the event of a death in the employee’s immediate family for a period of forty-eight (48) hours. The forty-eight (48) hours shall be taken in increments no less than twelve (12) hours and may be used as needed to gather with loved ones, and if applicable, plan arrangements for and attend funeral services, memorial services, or other rites and ceremonies related to the death. Definition of immediate family shall be spouse, fiancé, child (in-law, biological, adopted and/or Xxxxxx), father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, sister, sister- in-law, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, or granddaughter (or step relations of these relationships).
Bereavement Time Off. An employee shall be entitled to time off with pay for a maximum of five (5) consecutive calendar days in the case of the death of an immediate family member (defined as spouse; natural, xxxxxx or step-child; in- laws; parent; step-parent; sibling; grandchild; grandparent; or member of the employee’s immediate household), provided such time off is taken during the period between the date of death and the conclusion of the mourning period.
