Use of Bereavement Leave. Three (3) paid days shall be allowed for the death of a parent, step parent, spouse, child, step child, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or dependent of the immediate household. When the employee has legal and family responsibilities connected with said death, he/she may be granted additional time as stipulated by the Superintendent.
Use of Bereavement Leave. Xxxx Xxxxxxxxxxx Leave may be granted to an employee upon the request of the employee, upon the death of any of the following relatives of the requesting employee: spouse; child, including biological, step, adopted and xxxxxx children; parent, including biological, step, adoptive and xxxxxx parents; parent-in-law; grandparent; xxxxxxx; grandchild, including biological, step, adopted and xxxxxx grandchildren.
Use of Bereavement Leave. (a) Bereavement leave must be taken within a reasonable proximity, as determined by NCC, of the date of death of the immediate family member.
(b) Notwithstanding Section 4(a) above, with NCC’s approval, an employee’s paid bereavement leave days may be used at a time that is not reasonably proximate to the date of death for a burial or memorial service that occurs at a later date. However, bereavement leave is not intended to, and may not, be used for business or estate administration purposes attendant to the death of an immediate family member.
Use of Bereavement Leave. Any denial of a request for reasonable use of bereavement leave may be reviewed and considered by the Human Resources Division’s Office of Employee Relations upon request. Use of Bereavement Leave. 1. Bereavement Leave may be used only with the permission of the Health Director. Bereavement leave may not be unreasonably denied.
2. Permission to use Bereavement Leave must be secured before the Bereavement Leave is paid.
3. The length of Bereavement Leave shall be at the discretion of the Health Director, but will be consistent for all employees in like situations. The factors to be considered for the length of leave will depend on the relationship of the employee to the deceased and the geographical location of the funeral. Funeral locations in excess of 200 miles from the employees home will be accommodated with an additional two (2) days for travel.
4. Bereavement leave may be used for either or both the incidence of death of a qualifying relative and the funeral itself. The Health Director may authorize additional unpaid days off if the situation warrants.
Use of Bereavement Leave. The County has amended Section 12.3 of the Butte County Personnel Rules to allow the use of bereavement leave in the case of the death of individuals, other than those already listed, living in an employees household as a family member and to include brother-in law, sister-in law and registered Domestic Partners. Approval shall be on a case by case basis by the Director of Human Resources in his/her sole discretion.

Use of Bereavement Leave. EMPLOYER agrees to provide EMPLOYEE up to forty (40) hours of bereavement leave for each incident of death in EMPLOYEE’S immediate family, with full pay and benefits, to attend the funeral of a family member and/or make arrangements regarding the funeral. Bereavement leave need not need be used over consecutive days, but must be used within thirty (30) days of first use per incident of death.
Use of Bereavement Leave a. For the death of a family member (spouse, domestic partner, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, in-law, or step- relative in the same relationship) or person residing in your household: Up to ten (10) days for each family member or person residing in the household.
b. For the death of an individual who is not a family member or person residing in your household: In total, up to five (5) days in a calendar year.
c. If an employee requires more than the time allowed for bereavement leave, he/she may request an unpaid personal leave of absence or may use any accrued vacation leave.
d. An employee may not use accrued sick leave as bereavement leave:
1) As a personal day off. Employees must use vacation for a personal day off.
2) After his/her effective date of separation, retirement or layoff.
3) In excess of his/her scheduled hours of work (e.g., an employee scheduled to work six hours a day would not take eight hours of bereavement leave a day) up to a maximum of eight hours per day and 40 hours per week, including extended workweek situations.
4) During work deferment or leave without pay.
5) On an intermittent bases for purposes of eligibility for holiday pay and employer-paid contributions toward benefits. However, if the employee is taking Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave on an intermittent or reduced- schedule basis, refer to the applicable policies for further details.
