Birth and Adoption Leave. One (1) working day shall be granted, with pay, to all employees for either the birth or adoption of a child.

For tenure-track faculty members who take such leave for a birth or adoption event, the probationary period for tenure shall be extended, upon request, by one year for each such birth or adoption event, with a maximum of two such events in the probationary period. Pre-natal disability leave policies remain in place and supplement this policy for the child-bearing bargaining unit employee. Post-natal short-term disability leave for the child-bearing bargaining unit member shall run concurrently with this policy. Any birth or adoption leave chosen under this policy shall run concurrently with any birth or adoption leave provided by the Family Medical Leave Act. No bargaining unit member shall be subject to negative repercussions in evaluations, sabbatical applications, promotion, or tenure decisions for utilizing the benefits provided by this section.

Part-time faculty shall provide a minimum of 30 days advanced written notice to their AEA of 34 their intent to utilize Birth or Adoption Leave. In case of unforeseen circumstances when 30 days’ notice is 1 impracticable, the part-time faculty shall contact their AEA as soon as possible regarding the need to access 2 their Birth or Adoption Leave.

Birth and Adoption Leave. (a) Represented Workers who become parents to a newborn or newly adopted child receive four weeks of Birth/Adoption Parental Leave (BAPL). BAPL allows for bonding time between the parent(s) and the child and is applied after the disability period for Maternity Leaves.
