COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. A leave of absence of up to five (5) working days with pay may be granted by the Chair/Director for compassionate and/or bereavement reasons. The Xxxx/Vice-Xxxxxxx, Students/Chief Librarian may, in exceptional circumstances, extend this period to twenty (20) working days.

COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. ‌ 1. A Teacher shall be entitled to compassionate leave up to five (5) teaching days in the event of a life-threatening illness. This leave applies to the following relatives: parent, step-parent, spouse/common-law partner, child/step-child/xxxx of the Teacher, sibling, or a relative permanently residing with the Teacher. A Teacher shall be entitled to bereavement leave up to five (5) teaching days upon the death of a family member. This leave applies to the following relatives: parent, step-parent, spouse/common-law partner, child/step-child/xxxx of the Teacher, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, or a relative permanently residing with the Teacher. These days will be without loss of salary. 2. A Teacher shall be entitled to bereavement leave up to three (3) teaching days without loss of salary in the event of the death of a child-in-law, sibling-in-law, or parent-in-law. 3. A Teacher shall be entitled to bereavement leave of one (1) teaching day without loss of salary in the event of the death of the Teacher’s aunt or uncle. 4. Provided a Teacher has not received bereavement leave for the death in question, the employee shall be entitled to bereavement leave up to a maximum of one (1) day without loss of salary for attending a funeral as a pallbearer. 5. Bereavement days will normally be taken close to the time of the death. However, a Teacher may take up to one (1) day at a later date if: a) the purpose of the bereavement leave requested is reasonably related to the death, and b) the Teacher notified the School Division within the bereavement leave period about their request to take the day at a later date. The day is to be taken no later than six (6) months from the death. 6. Leave under this Article shall be provided to part time Teachers. 7. A Teacher shall be allowed up to two (2) additional teaching days at substitute cost deduction to the Teacher where travel is required to attend a death, provided the travel is in excess of five hundred (500) kilometres one (1) way, for an immediate family member as listed in 7.04 1.
COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. 18.01 The purpose of Compassionate Leave is to provide a Graduate Assistant with leave to address an emergency medical situation involving a member of the Graduate Assistant’s immediate family (spouse or common law partner, sibling, child, and parent), which places primary responsibility for care and support on the Graduate Assistant. 18.02 The purpose of Bereavement Leave is to provide a Graduate Assistant with leave following the loss of a member of the Graduate Assistant’s immediate family (spouse or common law partner, sibling, child, parent). 18.03 A Graduate Assistant is entitled to up to three weeks of paid Compassionate Leave at 100% of stipend. A Graduate Assistant is entitled to up to one week of Bereavement Leave. A combination of Compassionate Leave and Bereavement Leave will not exceed a maximum of three weeks. 18.04 Requests for Compassionate or Bereavement Leave will be made by the Graduate Assistant to the Graduate Assistantship Supervisor and Appointing Officer. The Graduate Assistantship Supervisor or Appointing Officer may require the Graduate Assistant to provide documentary evidence in support of the leave request. 18.05 The Xxxx, FGSR, may approve Compassionate Leave for a Graduate Assistant who can demonstrate that they have primary responsibility for the care and support of a person who is not a member of the Graduate Assistant’s immediate family, or Bereavement Leave following the loss of such a person.
COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. An employee is entitled to 2 days paid compassionate leave on each occasion when a member of the employee's immediate family or household contracts a personal illness or injury posing a serious threat to life. An employee is entitled to 3 days paid bereavement leave on each occasion when a member of the employee's immediate family or household dies.
COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. C10.1 When there is a death or critical illness of a parent, spouse, common-law spouse, brother, sister or child, the Faculty Member or Librarian concerned may arrange, with the approval of the Department Chair (or Xxxx or University Librarian, as appropriate), for leave from all of the individual=s duties and responsibilities. Such leaves shall be with full salary and benefits for a period of not more than five (5) working days. C10.2 In an emergency, an application may be made by telephone (to be confirmed in writing) where the particular circumstances warrant. C10.3 When there is a death of a grandparent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother- in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law or daughter-in-law, grandchild, fiancé or fiancée, or any second degree relative who has been residing in the same household, the Faculty Member or Librarian concerned may arrange, with the approval of the Department Chair (or Xxxx or University Librarian, as appropriate), for leave from all of the individual=s duties and responsibilities. Such leaves shall be with full salary and benefits for a period of not more than three (3) working days. C10.4 Where a funeral takes place outside Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Island, compassionate leave may be extended by a maximum of an additional three (3) working days to allow travel time. C10.5 A Faculty Member or Librarian shall be granted one (1) day of compassionate leave for funeral duties or for attending the funeral of any second degree relative not specified in C10.3.

COMPASSIONATE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE. (a) An Education Assistant may apply for Compassionate or Bereavement Leave of up to five (5) days. (b) Compassionate or Bereavement Leave of more than two (2) days will be debited against unutilized Sick Leave. (c) Compassionate and Xxxxxxxxxxx Leave is not to be taken during a period of any other leave. (d) An Education Assistant who applies for Compassionate or Bereavement Leave may be required to provide the College, if requested to do so, evidence that would satisfy a reasonable person as to the necessity of the leave.
