Credit for Outside Experience. For salary purposes, the Board may credit a teacher with service up to his/her total years of teaching experience with a valid Provisional, Permanent or Continuing Certificate, when first employed in the Xxxxxx Area Schools. Only full years of experience will be counted.

Credit for Outside Experience. It was agreed that beginning with the 1995-96 school year, the Board would grant six (6) years credit for outside experience for all incoming teachers, not to be retroactive. In areas of teacher shortage, the Board and the Association shall have representatives meet to approve an exception and extend beyond the six (6) years credit for outside experience to fill a position.
Credit for Outside Experience. 14.3.3.1 An unlimited number of years credit for K-12 or approved private school teaching shall be allowed for initial placement on the salary schedule. Vocational experience credit will be allowed for industrial experience on a basis of one increment for each two years industrial experience, not to exceed the 6th step, providing the experience is applicable to the teaching assignment. A. Teaching experience shall be accumulated teaching experience computed from the date the teacher has a valid teaching certificate issued by any state in the United States of America and had a contract with a State Board of Education recognized facility. (Degree plus equivalent of Michigan Provisional or Permanent Certificate excluding special certificate.) Not less than one full year of verified contracted teaching experience is creditable on the Ecorse salary schedule. Partial school year or part-time service is not applicable. 1. Service to the Ecorse Public Schools, regardless of the certificate held, shall be conducted the same as regular service. One year’s credit on the salary schedule is allowed for 180 days of substitute service in the Ecorse Public Schools. The maximum allowance for such substitute teaching is five (5) years. B. Any fully certificated teacher placed in a regular teaching position in which an actual vacancy exists shall receive a probationary contract and shall be placed on the appropriate step of the agreed upon salary schedule, provided that no prior commitment has been made and provided that said teacher is fully qualified to teach in the position in which he/she has been placed. C. Military service shall be computed for continuous active service in the armed forces of the United States of America. For purposes of computations, one-year of military service shall be computed as one school year. Credit for military service shall apply only for persons certified as teachers prior to the performance of the military service.

However, professional experience gained outside the school district shall be evaluated by the Board. Credit for this experience shall be allowed as outlined below whenever the Board deems the prior experience to be satisfactory and applicable to the assignment involved.

The Board should not grant more steps for experience to a newly hired teacher than have been earned by a similarly situated currently employed Chesaning Union Schools Teacher; in the situation that such a hire is unavoidable, the administration and association will confer in an attempt to resolve the issue. 2.
