PAID PERSONAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE. 26:01 Commencing May 1st of each year, each member of the bargaining unit shall be allowed for good reason up to four (4) days’ paid leave of absence annually. Such leave of absence shall not accrue from one (1) year to another if not used in that year. Each application for leave of absence must be made in writing to the working Foreperson or working supervisor, and shall indicate the reason for application therefore. Written requests for leave of absence must be submitted to the working Foreperson or working supervisor at least five (5) working days in advance. The working Foreperson or working supervisor will provide the employee with an answer within two (2) working days after receiving the written request. Employees shall not be allowed to use leaves of absence for purposes of extending vacations or the day prior to or following a paid holiday.
26:02 Where an employee cannot schedule a health care appointment outside of the employee’s regular working hours, the employee will give as much notice as possible, and will be given time off with pay necessary to attend the appointment. In such cases, the employee will attempt to schedule the appointment so as to minimize disruption to the employee’s workday. Employees must first exhaust paid personal days or lieu time for such appointments. Where an employee has exhausted all other leaves the employee will be given time off with pay provided the appointments are not recurring medical appointments.

Employees shall be permitted to use paid personal leave of absence for the observance of religious holidays of their faith which fall on a day in which they would normally be required to work. Paid personal leave of absence for sessional employees shall be pro-rated based on length of sessional appointment. For example, an employee who works: 0 to 3 months 1 4 to 6 months 2 7 to 9 months 3 10 or more months 4 In cases of emergency the employee shall give the supervisor as much notice as possible. Such emergency leaves will not be unreasonably withheld.
PAID PERSONAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE a) Permanent full-time employees are entitled to one (1) paid personal leave day per calendar year.
b) Permanent full-time employees may also request to transfer up to two (2) days of their sick leave credits as defined in Article 18:02, to their personal leave bank each calendar year.
c) Wherever possible, the conversion of sick leave credits to personal leave must be established at least two (2) weeks in advance of the request to take the time off.
d) An employee shall make a request to take a personal leave day in advance, can be taken in increments of one (1) hour and approval will be based on operational need.
e) Personal leave days have no cash value, are unable to be converted back to a sick leave credit and must be used by the end of the applicable calendar year.

Paid personal leave of absence is intended for the conduct of legitimate personal business which cannot be scheduled outside of normal hours of work, which shall include but not be limited to:
a) the observance of religious holidays of their faith which fall on a day in which they would normally be required to work;
b) family emergencies;
c) attending to legal matters;
d) attending graduation ceremonies for spouse or children;
e) personal health appointments;
f) moving;
g) care of family members;
h) parent-teacher interviews;
i) school trips or concerts;
j) stepping-in when the regular caregiver is away;
k) professional appointments;
l) supplementing a bereavement leave;
m) writing examinations;
n) volunteer activities; and
o) attending to emergency situations. Such leave of absence shall not accrue from one year to another if not used in that year. Each application for leave of absence shall indicate the reason for the application. Written requests for leave of absence must be submitted to the supervisor at least five (5) working days in advance (excluding weekends and holidays) with the exception of family emergencies and emergency situations.
