Placement on Grid. H.1.4.1 For newly-hired Permanent Contract Employees who have not previously been employed by the Employer, prior relevant experience for each acceptable year will be considered up to the Category maximum in accordance with the salary steps in Appendix A. An acceptable year of experience shall be defined as one (1) year of full-time employment which may be accumulated through part-time employment to the maximum set out in Article H. 1.4.2.1. Relevant experience and employment is verified with an acceptable professional agency or organization. H.1.4.1.1 For newly-hired Permanent Contract Employees who were previously employed as Long Term Casual Employees or Temporary Contract Employees, the calculation of step placement will not result in a lower step placement than the one assigned during the Employee’s last temporary contract. As well, the calculation will also take into account experience gained since the Employee’s last step placement review. H.1.4.1.2 Employees may request a review of step placement if they have reason to believe they were improperly placed at the time of hire.

Placement on Grid. B.2.1 Secondary or elementary school teaching experience in Ontario as a permanent or probationary employee on a full time basis is used to find the step on the grid. This is to be adjusted by the following: B.2.2 Teaching experience in other schools or jurisdictions other than in Ontario may be used at the discretion of the Director to establish the step on the grid at the time the teacher is entering the system. A statement of equivalency from the Ministry of Education of Ontario shall be acceptable. B.2.3 Teaching experience in fractions of years (part time or part year) shall be converted to fractions of a step on the grid as of the beginning of each school year provided that they were a regular day school teacher or an occasional teacher for a continuous period of 16 days or more either with the York Region District School Board or its predecessor boards or with another Board of Education or with any newly formed District School Board as defined by the Education Act, or with any of their predecessor boards. Experience for a part of a year may not be counted during the same school year but may be credited as of the next school year in those cases where a teacher joins the Board on some date other than September 1 and where the teacher had experience during the school year in which he/ she joined the Board. B.2.4 For a teacher who accepts a temporary non- teaching assignment with the Board, the time covered by the temporary assignment shall be counted as experience.

H.1.4.2.1 Experience shall be calculated as follows: H.1.4.2.1.1 for full-time employment on the full-time salary for a period of not less than 190 days in one (1) school year, allow one (1) years’ experience. Employees who have been employed for the full school year by another School Board within Canada that have a work year of less than 190 days will be considered on a case by case basis. H.1.4.2.1.2 for full-time employment on full time salary for less than 190 days in one (1) school year, determine the percentage of the partial year as follows Number of full days worked divided by 190 days = percentage (%) of full year. Category A0 shall be defined as those Teachers who were in Categories D, C, and B prior to September 1992. 4:02 Interim Classification - Teachers who fail to provide the Board with the appropriate documentation placing them on the grid shall be paid according to the documentation held by the Board, as evaluated by the Director of Education in consultation with the Unit President of the Local Bargaining Unit, until such time as the required documents are produced. Teachers who fail to provide the Board with Q.E.C.O. ratings will be placed in Category A0 without a B.A. degree, and in Category A1, with a B.A. degree, until such time as the required documents are received by the Board. 4:03 Holders of Letters of Standing shall be placed by the Board in the standard equated by the Ministry of Education, and the standard is to be equated to Q.E.C.O. levels of category placement subject to Article 4:01. Said teacher will be entitled to retroactive pay as of September 1st of that school year. 4:04 The onus is on the Teacher to inform the Board in writing prior to the 30th of September, in any year, respecting any change which has occurred in the Teacher’s category. Placement on Grid. A. Teachers in the employ of the Board as of June 26, 2003, will be rounded up to the next full experience increment on the grid. Their anniversary date for purpose of movement through the grid thereafter shall be September 1. B. Years of teaching experience for new Teachers employed on or after September 1, 2003, will be rounded to the nearest full year (up or down) in order to be placed on the wage grid at a full step. (.5 rounds up) C. Notwithstanding B., Teachers will move to the next experience increment on the wage grid on September 1 of each year. This date shall become their anniversary date for the purpose of movement through the grid.
