Relief Assignment. Employees who are not normally assigned to work on a compressed work week schedule, and who relieve for employees who engaged in the compressed work week, shall be subject to the terms of this agreement during such relief assignment.
Relief Assignment. 10.01 Where a first line out-of-scope supervisor or in-scope supervisor normally would be on duty and is absent for reasons such as annual vacation, sick leave and leaves of absence for a period greater than three (3) working days, and no other supervisor is relieving her (out-of-scope for out-ofscope, in-scope for in-scope), an Employee shall be designated as Relief Assignment and shall be paid a rate of five point five per cent (5.5%) over the Employee’s current hourly rate. If the increase of five point five per cent (5.5%) produces an hourly rate below the minimum of the range, the salary shall be adjusted to the minimum of the range or the Charge Pay referred to in Article 9.01, whichever is greater.
10.02 A Relief Assignment of less than three (3) days shall not be used to circumvent the above stated provisions.
10.03 Temporary assignment to relieve in an out-of-scope position shall not remove an Employee from the scope of the bargaining units or from the terms of the Agreement for a period totalling twelve (12) months during the term of this Agreement. At anytime during temporary relief assignment, an Employee may elect to return to her former position.
10.04 An Employee has the right to refuse an assignment to relieve in an out-of-scope or an in- scope supervisory position.
Relief Assignment. Relief assignments may be made on a day to day basis by 23 the Employer in order to insure and establish adequate staffing within an 24 assignment or work location. Relief assignments may be utilized by the Employer 25 as a regular assignment. In the Labor and Trades Bargaining Unit, this shall not 26 be done to avoid the payment of overtime. In the Safety and Regulatory Unit 27 current practice for use of relief assignments shall continue unless modified in 28 secondary negotiations.
Relief Assignment a) Fire Engineers or Firefighters assigned to relief shall receive an additional five percent (5%) in compensation based upon a full one hundred and twelve (112) hour pay period.
b) Relief Engineers or Firefighters may be assigned to long term vacancies or absences in represented ranks, when it is determined that the vacancy or absence will exceed thirty (30) days. Assignment of a Relief Engineer or Firefighters into long term vacancies or absences shall not exceed sixty (60) calendar days. For vacancies or absences that exceed sixty (60) calendar days, Relief Engineers or Firefighters shall be rotated at 60-day intervals, unless mutually agreed upon by the employee, MCFFA and Fire Management. Relief Engineers or Firefighters assigned to long term vacancies or absences shall continue to receive a five percent (5%) relief incentive pay, regardless of assignment. Relief Engineers may work out of grade to cover Firefighter and Captain vacancies. Relief Firefighters may work out of grade to cover Engineer vacancies, but not Captain vacancies.
c) Fire Management will make every effort to fill vacancies through hiring and promotion when practical.
Relief Assignment. 7.01 An employee designated to relieve in an out of scope position shall receive an additional fifty dollars ($50.00) per day. Employees retain the right to refuse the designation.
7.02 Temporary assignment to relieve in an out-of-scope position shall not remove an employee from the bargaining unit or from the terms of this Agreement for a period of six (6) months. The temporary position will be limited in managerial functions and shall not include the responsibility to hire, fire, approve leaves, evaluate or discipline employees.
7.03 Any time during the temporary relief assignment, an employee shall be returned to their former position at their request.
Relief Assignment. Unless so indicated in an class specification, an employee who is required to perform the duties of a higher in-scope position on a regularly scheduled basis, or for a period of one (1) day or longer, shall be paid at the step in the higher class range which shall yield a increase of five percent (5%) for the entire period so worked. In no will the employee be paid at a rate higher than the maximum step of the range for the higher position. Out-of-Scope Relief Assignments Employees required to relieve in an out-of-scope position for one (1) day or more will receive a minimum increase of five percent (5%) of their rate of pay for the entire period so worked. Increments Relief Assignments When an employee is engaged in such temporary substitution continuously for more than one (1)year, be entitled to annual increments in the range for the higher paid position one (1) year after any increment is granted to under sub-section (a) of this section, except where the employee before such increment date becomes entitled to an increment under the salary range for position, resulting in a higher salary, in which case increment date for the higher range shall be that for own position. When an employee is engaged in such temporary substitution for more than a year, shall, at the commencement of the second year, be paid at a rate which provides an increase of at least ten percent (10%) above hisher current rate in former class provided that it is not below the minimum or above the maximum of the in which is substituting.

Relief Assignment. Where work is to be done, which under the terms of this Agreement does not require posting, assignments shall be made on the basis of seniority within the department provided the employee possesses the necessary qualifications required to fill the position and the ability to perform the work. Such assignments may be made at the same classification, at a higher classification, or at a lower classification.
a) Working at a Higher Paid Classification An employee temporarily assigned to perform duties of a higher paid classification, within the bargaining unit, shall be advanced in the higher pay grade to the hourly rate in the pay grade which is next higher than the current hourly rate for all hours so worked in the higher classification. Hours worked in the temporary assignment shall be credited to the employee for the purpose of advancement in the increment scale.
b) Working at a Lower Paid Classification An employee temporarily assigned to perform the duties of a lower paid classification shall not suffer any reduction in hourly rate of pay.
