Small Necessities Leave. The parties agree to comply with the terms of the Small Necessities Leave Act, X.X. x. 149 s.52D.
Small Necessities Leave. When a leave purpose provided for in Chapter 149, Section 52D is also covered by leave provided herein such leave shall be coterminous.
Small Necessities Leave. An employee eligible for FMLA leave shall be entitled to up to twenty-four (24) hours of leave per contract year as provided by X.X. x. 149, §52D; a copy of the law may be obtained from the Superintendent’s office. When an eligible employee takes such leave, such leave shall be deducted from personal leave.
Small Necessities Leave. 1. Pursuant to M.G.L chapter 149, Section 52D, a postdoc shall be entitled to a total of 24 hours of unpaid leave during any 12-month period, in addition to other leaves provided by this Agreement, for the following purposes:
a. To participate in school activities directly related to the educational advancement of a son or daughter of the postdoc, such as parent-teacher conferences or interviewing for a new school;
b. To accompany the son or daughter of the postdoc to routine medical or dental appointments, such as check-ups or vaccinations; and
c. To accompany an elderly relative of the postdoc to routine medical or dental appointments or appointments for other professional services related to the elder's care, such as interviewing atnursing or group homes.
2. Consistent with the sick leave and time off provisions of this Agreement, postdocs may use accrued paid time off and/or sick leave to cover such absences.
3. Where possible, postdocs should give their PI or supervisor at least seven(7) days written notice of their intent to take leave under this Article and the expected duration of the leave. If not possible to provide seven (7) days notice, the postdoc shall provide notice as soon aspracticable.
Small Necessities Leave. Pursuant to M.G.L. c. 149, s. 52D, the School Committee agrees to abide by the provision of the 1998 Act Providing Employees Leave for Certain Family Obligations. The Small Necessities Leave Act (SNLA) mandates that certain eligible employees be permitted to take a total of 24 hours of unpaid leave during any 12-month period. These 24 hours are in addition to the 12 weeks already allowed under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. Employees are eligible for SNLA if they have worked for the School Committee for at least one (1) year and at least for one thousand two hundred and fifty (1,250) hours over the previous twelve (12) months. The 24 hours of leave may be taken by an eligible employee for any of the following purposes:
(1) To participate in school activities directly related to the educational advancement of a son or daughter of the employee, such as parent-teacher conferences or interviewing for a new school;
(2) To accompany the son or daughter of the employee to routine medical or dental appointments, such as check-ups or vaccinations; or
(3) To accompany an elderly relative of the employee to routine medical or dental appointments or appointments for other professional services related to the elder’s care, such as interviewing at nursing or group homes. An employee may take up to twenty-four hours of SNLA leave within any rolling twelve (12) monthly period, measured backward from the date any leave is used. SNLA leave may be taken in blocks of at least one hour, up to the maximum amount of leave time available. In the event of foreseeable leave, employees are expected to submit a written request for leave by seven (7) days prior to the anticipated commencement of the leave. When leave is not foreseeable, notice must be given as soon as is practicable, and ordinarily within one or two business days of when the employee learns of the need for the leave. Employees are required to use paid vacation or personal time off, if available, during the time taken for SNLA leave. Any paid time off used is exhausted simultaneously within an employee’s entitlement to SNLA leave. If the employee has no paid time off available, then the leave will be unpaid.
Small Necessities Leave. The Town will comply with the requirements of the Massachusetts Small Necessities Leave Act (SNLA), M.G.L. c. 149, s.52D, as may be amended, which allows SNLA-eligible employees up to a total of 24 hours of leave during any 12-month period for the following purposes:
1. to participate in school activities directly related to the educational advancement of a son or daughter of the employee, such as parent-teacher conferences or interviewing for a new school;
2. to accompany the son or daughter of the employee to routine medical or dental appointments, such as check-ups or vaccinations;
3. to accompany an elderly relative of the employee to routine medical or dental appointments or appointments for professional services related to the elder’s care, such as interviewing at nursing or group homes. SNLA leave may consist of either or both paid and unpaid leave. The Town may require employees to substitute accrued paid leave for any leave provided under the SNLA.
Small Necessities Leave. The Town shall provide leave in accordance with the Massachusetts Small Necessities Leave Act, M.G.L. c. 149, s.52D.
Small Necessities Leave. The Small Necessities Leave language for the bargaining unit is attached to this Agreement.
Small Necessities Leave. For the purposes of the Small Necessities Leave Act (Massachusetts General Laws, Ch. 149, Section 52D), the benefit year shall commence at the start of the teacher work year.
Small Necessities Leave. Any leave taken under this collective bargaining agreement shall not be in addition to Small Necessities Leave taken or available to be taken under the provisions of M.G.L. c. 149, x 52D.
