Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The Employer shall grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay:
(a) for employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial, or federal election, for a maximum period of ninety (90) days;
(b) for employees selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of one (1) year;
(c) for employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five (5) years;
(d) for an employee elected to the position of President or Secretary-Treasurer of the

(b) for employees selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of one (1) year;
(c) for employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five (5) years;
(d) for an employee elected to the position of President or Secretary-Treasurer of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union, the leave shall be for a period of two (2) years and shall be renewed upon request of the Union.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The Employer will grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay:
(a) for employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial, federal, First Nation or other Indigenous election, for a maximum period of 90 days;
(b) for employees selected for a paid position with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of up to one year and will be renewed upon request of the Union;
(c) for employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five years;
(d) for an employee elected to a full-time position of the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated, the leave will be for the period of the term and will be renewed upon request of the Union;
(e) for an employee appointed or elected to a full-time position with a First Nation or other Indigenous organization, the leave will be for the period of the term and will be renewed upon request of the Union.

Where possible, prior to the expiration of the leave, the employee shall notify the Employer in writing of the anticipated date of return to work. This clause applies to:
(a) employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial or federal election;
(b) employees selected for a full-time position with the Union or anybody to which the Union is affiliated for a period of one year, which may be renewed by mutual consent. Seniority shall not accumulate during this leave of absence beyond a period of three years;
(c) employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five years.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The University shall grant to regular full-time and regular part-time employees, on written request and with at least thirty (30) days notice, leave of absence without pay:
a) for a maximum of ninety (90) days for employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial or federal election;
b) for a period of one (1) year for employees selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated. Such leave shall be renewed each year on request during his/her term of office;
c) for a maximum period of four (4) years for employees elected to public office;
d) where an employee has been elected to a seat on a municipal Council or School Board, and the meetings of that body are held during the employee's normal working hours, the University shall grant leave without pay to attend such meetings; and,
e) federal and provincial offices - there are no restrictions on employees engaging in political activities on their own time as campaign workers. If an employee is nominated as a candidate for election, the employee shall be granted leave without pay in accordance with Section (a) to engage in the election campaign. If elected, the employee shall be granted leave of absence in accordance with Section (c). If not elected, the employee shall be allowed to return to his/her former position. Where the approved leave of absence is in excess of twenty (20) consecutive days, the University shall only maintain the benefits normally paid on behalf of the employee for the balance of the month in which the leave commences. Thereafter, the University will only continue such benefit coverage subject to carrier rules if the Union or the employee pays to the University, in advance of the commencement of the employee's leave, the amount owing by post-dated cheques to cover the continuing benefit coverage during the balance of the approved leave. Seniority shall not accrue during the period of the approved leave of absence, but will not be lost as a result of an employee pursuing such leave. Vacation and sick leave credits will not be earned during the employee's leave of absence without pay.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The Company shall grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay:
(a) for team members to seek election in a municipal, first nations, provincial or federal election,
(b) for team members selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body in which the Union is affiliated for a period of one (1) year, or
(c) for team members elected to a public office for a maximum period of five (5) years.
(d) For a team member elected to the position of President or Treasurer of the B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union. The leave shall be for a period of three (3) years and shall be renewed upon request.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The Employer will grant a leave of absence without pay to a faculty member:
(a) to engage in election campaign activities in a municipal, provincial or federal election to a maximum of ninety (90) days. Such leaves will not be unreasonably denied;
(b) to seek election in a municipal, provincial, or federal election to a maximum of ninety (90) days;
(c) for a period of one (1) year for faculty members selected for a full-time position with the Union or anybody to which the Union is affiliated;
(d) where elected to public office, for up to two (2) consecutive terms.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The College shall grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay:
(a) for employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial, federal or Indigenous government election;
(b) for employees selected for a full-time position with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of three years, which may be renewed by mutual consent. Seniority shall not accumulate during this leave of absence beyond a period of three years;
(c) for employees elected to a public office for a maximum period of five years.
Full-Time Union or Public Duties. The Board shall grant, on written request, leave of absence without pay:
(i) for employees to seek election in a municipal, provincial or federal election;
(ii) for employees selected for full-time positions with the Union or any body to which the Union is affiliated for a period of one (1) year. Such leave may be renewed each year on request during the employee’s term of office. Such employee shall receive the employee’s pay and benefits as provided for in this Agreement but the Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits during the period of absence.
