Casual Nurses i) It is understood that casual Nurses do not have normal hours of work. All assignments for the next day will be faxed by the office by 1630h.
ii) Casual Nurses are expected to maintain competence to work as a VON Nurse. Subject to a casual employee’s right to elect to work, casual Nurses shall provide availability and are expected to work a minimum of one (1) weekday shift per week, at least one (1) weekend in three (3) and one (1) on- call assignment per month. A casual Nurse who has not provided availability or has refused offers of work for a period in excess of two (2) months, without an explanation satisfactory to the Employer, will be removed from the casual list.
iii) Casual employees who have been offered and accepted shifts based on their availability cannot cancel such shifts and the process for exchanging a scheduled shift in Article 14.06 is to be followed.
Casual Nurses. In the event that a Casual Nurse becomes a Permanent Nurse and the subsequent conversion of hours as per Article 11.02 results in the same Seniority date as a current Bargaining Unit member(s), the Casual Nurse who has converted his/her hours shall be placed on the Seniority list below the other pre-established Bargaining Unit member(s) with the same Seniority date.
Casual Nurses. A Casual Nurse is hired to a home unit. A casual Nurse may request to be placed on any Work Area Specific Casual List(s) subject to Article 7.21 (c).
Casual Nurses. Provisions 16.02, 16.03 and 16.04 are not applicable to a Casual Nurse (except a Casual Nurse while in a Temporary Position). However, a Casual Nurse may otherwise be eligible for Worker’s Compensation Benefits.
Casual Nurses. Casual Nurses who fail to submit their availability for three (3) consecutive work schedules will be contacted by telephone or registered mail to attend a meeting at a mutually agreeable time with the Employer for the purpose of establishing the Nurses commitment to continued employment. If the Nurse fails to show willingness to attend they shall have their name removed from the payroll.
Casual Nurses. Paid Holiday Entitlement A casual nurse shall be entitled to a paid holiday as outlined in this Agreement and shall receive a regular days pay of seven (7) hours pay as paid holiday pay if (s)he:
(a) Earns wages on at least twelve (12) days of one-half day or more in the four (4) weeks preceding a paid holiday; and,
(b) Works her/his scheduled hours on her/his last scheduled day preceding the holiday; and,
(c) Works her/his scheduled hours on her/his first scheduled day following the holiday, unless excused by the employer and/or is absent for legitimate reasons; and,
(d) Reports to work on the holiday, as agreed and scheduled. In the event that a casual nurse has not earned wages on at least twelve(12) days in the four (4) weeks preceding a paid holiday, the default entitlement shall be in accordance with the Employment Standards Act (2000).
Casual Nurses. (a) Casual employees shall submit their availability, in writing for the period covered by the posted work schedule at least four (4) weeks prior to the posting of the schedule throughout the year, unless on an approved leave of absence.
(b) A casual employee that declares themselves available for a shift, and later becomes unavailable, will notify the Hospital as soon as the change in circumstance becomes known.
(c) A casual employee who accepts a shift shall have the same obligation to work that shift as a regular employee.
Casual Nurses. Casual nurses whose status is changed to regular part-time or regular full- time will be credited with actual hours worked for the purpose of establishing their seniority in accordance with 10.03 a) or 10.03 b) above, as applicable.
Casual Nurses. Casual nurses may submit availability at the same time as other nurses.
Casual Nurses a. Casual Nurses are used to supplement Registered Nurses in the Regular, Relief and Temporary categories. The purpose of this provision intent is to provide the Hospital with access to Nurses in the community who wish to continue Nursing but are unable to work on a regularly scheduled basis or are unable to commit to the standard minimum availability requirements of the categories’ set forth in this Article, and to offer continued employment to Nurses who might otherwise be forced to resign because of these same schedule and availability problems.
b. The Hospital will employ as Casual Nurses, Nurses desiring such employment, including those Nurses currently employed by the Hospital. Casual Nurses shall be subject to the terms set forth below:
(1) Casual Nurses will be hired based upon the Hospital’s evaluation of their abilities and on the Hospital’s needs. A Casual Nurse employed as Staff Nurse I will be identified to the Manager/Lead Nurse in the department/shift to which she/he is assigned and will be given assistance by the Manager/Lead Nurse as needed to assure that the Casual Nurse is competent to fulfill her/his assigned duties and responsibilities.
(2) Casual Nurses shall be scheduled or assigned to work on an “as available” or “as needed” basis.
(3) The ROH Standard in effect as of the current Agreement is to be used for ROHs under this Agreement, including Casual Nurses.
