Credit for Previous Teaching Experience. Full credit shall be given for the first seven years of teaching experience. No half-credits shall be given. Newly hired teachers shall be awarded a full year of credit on the salary schedule for their previous experience provided that their teaching experience was full-time contracted service for 120 school days of the school year in question (or a period of time equivalent to November 1st through the end of the school year). Retired teachers who are employed in a part-time capacity shall be placed on the salary schedule with up to seven years of teaching experience and on the column (lane) that accurately reflects their education. Retired teachers so placed will not advance on the salary schedule but will be frozen on that step and lane for the duration of their service in the District. Retired teachers hired prior to the start of the 2002-03 school year will be frozen on the compensation step and lane attained at the start of the 2002-03 school year. Military experience, not to exceed two years, may be credited on the compensation schedule as teaching experience. The total credit for any teaching experience shall not exceed seven years. First-Year Teacher's Work Year and Compensation All first-year teachers will have their contract year extended by six days. Four of the six days will be scheduled within seven workdays prior to the start of the school year for the experienced staff. The equivalent of at least one full day out of the four at the beginning of the year will be dedicated to work in the teacher’s classroom, team-oriented activities, and/or working with the teacher’s mentor. Two full days (or their equivalent) will be dedicated to orientation activities as planned by the Administration. The equivalent of one full day will be dedicated to technology training. Days five and six will be scheduled by the administration during the first year of employment and may be scheduled as half-day or full workdays. These days may be scheduled after the normal end of any workday (not beyond 8:00 p.m.) or may be scheduled on a weekend. Days four, five, and six, with one dedicated to technology, will be compensated at current substitute pay rate. For teachers hired after new teacher training has occurred, the Superintendent or designee will determine if the required training will occur at the beginning of their second year. Credit for Previous Teaching Experience. For purposes of placement and progression of full-time and part-time teachers on the salary schedule, the following shall apply:
Credit for Previous Teaching Experience a) Prior to September 1, 1998 teaching experience recognized for placement on the salary grid means teaching experience as a permanent contract or as a probationary contract teacher while holding a valid Ontario Teacher Certificate or Letter of Standing or equivalent teacher qualification. After August 31, 1998 teaching experience recognized for placement on the salary grid means teaching experience gained in an elementary or secondary regular day school program, while a member of the Ontario College of Teachers or while holding equivalent teacher qualifications. The only occasional teaching experience recognized for placement on the salary grid is occasional teaching experience set out in Clause 4.02 (c).
Credit for Previous Teaching Experience. 9.3.1 Notwithstanding any of the foregoing and in accordance with the School Act, RSA 2000, teaching experience obtained by a teacher prior to engagement by the Board is counted as if it had been teaching experience in schools under the Board’s jurisdiction.

The Teacher shall then be paid according to the proper place on the salary grid. Credit for Previous Teaching Experience. For purposes of placement and progression of Long Term Occasional teachers on the salary schedule, the following shall apply: (a) Part-time or full-time teaching experience gained in a day program within the school year while engaged as a teacher holding an Ontario Teaching Certificate, or its equivalent, or as a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Teachers, shall be credited by the Board in determining placement on the salary schedule, provided the employment was either with a school board, or with other than a school board, where the teacher taught a program of study similar to that taught in the Ontario elementary school system. It is the responsibility of the Occasional Teacher to provide Human Resources with official Certificate(s) of Teaching Experience. Any change to a Long Term Occasional Teacher’s credited experience shall be made effective the month following the month in which the statement is received by Human Resources. (b) Experience credit under this section shall be granted on the basis of one month credit for each full month employed, with ten months constituting a full school year. A teacher must be employed for at least one-half of the available teaching days in a given month to gain credit for a full month's teaching experience for that month. (c) Effective May 13, 2009, teachers on long term occasional assignments shall be credited with previous long term occasional experience up to a maximum of five (5) years. Credit shall be recorded each 1 September. A teacher must be employed for at least one-half of the available school days in a given month to gain credit for a full month teaching experience for that month.
