Death in Family Leave. An employee who is absent due to a death in the immediate family will be excused without loss of pay for a reasonable period of time (as determined by their supervisor), based on need and circumstances, usually one to three days. Paid time off may be requested in the instance of a death of someone outside of an employee’s immediate family and will be permitted at the Company’s discretion. Immediate family shall be defined as the employee’s spouse, parents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents, son or daughter, brother or sister, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law or domestic partners.

Death in Family Leave. In case of death in the imme­ diate family of a full time employee, such employee shall be allowed a maximum of three days leave with pay, provided however that no employee will be paid more than a full week’s pay. The term immediate family shall mean husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, mother- in-law, father-in-law or any relative residing with the em­ ployee.

Death in Family Leave. Leave shall be granted upon the approval of the Superintendent. All full and part time Paraprofessionals shall be entitled to a maximum of five (5) consecutive days of absence with pay immediately following a death in the immediate family. When a death occurs in the immediate family as defined above, the Paraprofessionals may convert up to a maximum of three (3) Personal days to additional bereavement leave.

The immediate family is defined as: • Spouse and children of the employee • Mother, father, brothers, and sisters of employee • Mother, father, brothers, and sisters of employee’s spouse • Grandparents and grandchildren, domestic partner, or other residing in the employee’s household as stated in the Family Medical Leave Act Time off under this paragraph may also be granted due to serious illness or accident in the immediate family, death of a family member not defined above, or unusual circumstances relating to a death in the immediate family, and may be charged to sick leave or vacation at the discretion of, and as approved by, the Fire Chief.

Up to three (3) days leave per occurrence without loss of pay shall be granted when an employee suffers the loss of a grandfather or grandmother. c. One day of leave per occurrence without loss of pay shall be granted when an employee suffers the loss of an aunt, uncle, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, nephew or cousin. 4. Computing days In computing such days, the following days will not be counted: legal holidays, weekends, or other days when the employee's attendance is not required.

Full pay for absence not to exceed three (3) days for a death locally and five (5) days if the funeral is held more than one hundred fifty (150) miles from the City of Duluth shall be granted to eligible persons covered by this Agreement to attend a funeral in their immediate family. 2. An employee may be absent up to an additional three (3) days on account of death in the immediate family if necessary for travel or in connection with legal or business matters involving the estate or burial of the deceased.

In the event of a death in the immediate family of an administrator, he or she will be granted leave with pay on the day of the funeral if it is a workday, up to two (2) additional workdays falling between the day of death and the day of the funeral, one (1) day immediately following the funeral if it is a workday, and one (1) day following the death to be used within the school year for which the death occurred at the bargaining unit employee’s discretion (the Superintendent or their designee may authorize the use of this day, on a case by case basis, outside of the school year, but not to exceed one calendar year from the date of the death). "Immediate family" of an administrator is defined as spouse, children (including pregnancy loss), parent, sibling, or any member of the administrator's household (immediate family shall include “step” relationships listed herein). 18-02. In the event of the death of parent-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, or nephews the administrator will be granted leave with pay on the day of the funeral if it is a workday, up to one (1) additional workday falling between the day of death and the day of the funeral, and one (1) day following the death to be used within the school year for which the death occurred at the bargaining unit employee’s discretion (the Superintendent or their designee may authorize the use of this day, on a case by case basis, outside of the school year, but not to exceed one calendar year from the date of the death). 18-03. In the event of the death of a non-traditional family member, the bargaining unit employee will be granted leave with pay on the day of the funeral if the employee attends the funeral.

B. The “immediate family” shall include only husband, wife, child, parents, grandparents, sister, brother or in-laws (mother, father, brother and sister) of the employee. C. Reasonable verification of the event may be required by the BOROUGH. X. Xxxx bereavement leave is not in addition to any holiday, day off, vacation leave or compensatory time off falling within the time of bereavement. E. An employee may make a request of the Department Head or his designated representative for time off to attend a funeral separate and distinct from bereavement leave. Such request, if granted by the Department Head or his designated representative shall be charged, at the option of the employee, either as a personal day or against accumulated compensatory time off. F. Leave granted and taken under this Article shall be in full or half (1/2) day increments only.
