Faculty Association Leave Clause Samples
The Faculty Association Leave clause grants members of a faculty association the right to take leave from their regular duties to participate in association-related activities. Typically, this leave applies to union representatives or officers who need time to attend meetings, negotiations, or conferences on behalf of the association, and may specify whether such leave is paid or unpaid, as well as any notice requirements. The core function of this clause is to ensure that faculty association members can fulfill their organizational responsibilities without jeopardizing their employment or benefits, thereby supporting effective representation and collective bargaining.
Faculty Association Leave. Leave with pay may be granted to 1-3 members of the Faculty Association to attend a state, regional, or national meeting, related to the business of the Association, at no additional travel or per diem expenses to the college. This leave is limited to 3 days total per academic year. It can be granted to one member for 3 days or distributed among 3 members for 1 day, or any combination thereof. This leave may be granted when it has been determined by the appropriate Vice President or ▇▇▇▇ that coverage can be provided by current faculty absorbing the duties of those using this leave, or in the event that is not possible and a suitable substitute can be identified, by hiring a replacement.
Faculty Association Leave. (a) To facilitate the operation of the Collective Agreement and Employer/Faculty relationships, the Association will be provided quarter-time leave of absences without loss of pay for one of its members in two semesters each year. Additional leaves of absence shall be at replacement cost.
(b) The Employer agrees that, while the granting of leave in excess of half-time for any one individual is subject to the Employer's educational requirements, approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
(c) The request for all such leaves shall be made by the Association in writing to the appropriate administrator responsible and the Director, Human Resources by May 15 for Fall leaves and November 1 for Spring leaves.
(d) A faculty member selected for a full-time position in the College-Institute Educators' Association of B.C. or in any successor organization to C-IEA shall be granted full-time leave of absence subject to the following conditions:
(i) As soon as possible in advance of the leave, the Association shall notify the Employer of the possibility of this clause being invoked. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Association shall provide the Employer with written notice by June 1 for Fall leaves and November 1 for Spring leaves;
(ii) A faculty member on leave under this clause shall continue to receive full salary and the benefits from the Employer. The Association shall, on a monthly basis, reimburse the Employer for the full amount of the faculty members member's salary and benefits. Reimbursement will be effected by the Employer directly deducting the full amount of the faculty member's salary and benefits from the Association member dues on a monthly basis. In the event the membership dues are not enough to cover the faculty member's monthly salary and benefits, the Association will remit the outstanding balance on a monthly basis.
(e) Meetings between representative of the Association and the Employer shall be held at times mutually agreeable to the parties. Every effort shall be made to hold such meetings at times that do not conflict with the teaching or duty schedules of the faculty members involved.
(f) Any leaves granted under this section shall count as eligible time towards full-time equivalent (F.
Faculty Association Leave. To facilitate the operation of the Collective Agreement and relationships, the Association will be provided the total equivalent of one quarter-time leave of absence per annum without loss of pay or other entitlement for one of its members. The union may designate a person who will be entitled to union leave under this Article and will advise the employer of the amount of the leave to be taken. to March Page the individual who is carrying out the duties of the individual released. Such leaves will not be unreasonably withheld. Where such leave is granted, the employer will replace the employee as necessary. Costs arising from this provision will not be charged against the program area of the participating union representative.
