Leave for Educational Purposes. 17.8.1 A unit member may be granted a paid leave of absence for the purpose of attending workshops relating to the unit member’s teaching assignment or participation in other education activities that tend to enhance the unit member’s job performance.
17.8.2 Paid leave may be granted to a unit member desiring to attend workshops relating to matters outside his/her teaching area if such attendance is deemed valuable to his/her improvement as a teacher in the District. Such attendance may be used to prepare him/her for requesting a voluntary transfer.
17.8.3 Paid leaves for educational purposes will not be used for salary advancement.
Leave for Educational Purposes. 1. A leave may be requested for educational purposes which may be unrelated to the faculty member’s instructional area. A faculty member who is not on trial service shall, upon approval, be granted a leave of absence for educational purposes without pay for up to one year. A faculty member who has served for ten years shall, upon approval, be granted a leave of absence for educational purposes without pay for up to two years. No request for leave for educational purposes shall be unreasonably denied provided there is a reasonable expectation the faculty member will return to employment with the College, and the College is able to provide staffing for the employee on leave. A faculty member granted a leave of absence for educational purposes agrees to return to service for the College for an amount of time equal to the length of the leave. To initiate this process, the employee completes a Personnel Transaction Request form for "Leave of Absence," and submits it to his/her immediate supervisor at least 90 days in advance of the commencement of the leave.
2. If a leave of absence is undertaken for an educational purpose (as ultimately approved by the President), the employee should indicate on the form the leave is a "leave for educational purposes." The returning faculty member shall be placed at the salary level which would have been attained had the faculty member not been on leave. Xxxx leave will be retained and not accrued during the leave.
3. Faculty members shall receive no pay from the College during the leave of absence for educational purposes. The Board agrees to provide employee-only insurance coverage for the faculty member and their currently enrolled dependents under the same terms and conditions as that provided to contracted faculty members under Article 10 - Insurance, provided the faculty member reimburses the College in advance on a monthly basis for their share of insurance premiums. Premiums paid by the College on behalf of the faculty member and dependents during the leave must be repaid in full should the faculty member fail to return to employment with the College for an amount of time equal to the leave, or should the faculty member return for less than the required period, the amount of premium to be repaid will be prorated accordingly.
Leave for Educational Purposes. When an employee participates in an approved professional development or career development activity or program, such as student teaching or practicum experience as part of a recognized teacher certification program, and when it is necessary for the employee to miss their regularly scheduled workdays to participate in said opportunity, an employee may apply for an unpaid leave of absence for the required educational time. During this leave, the employee’s district-paid benefits will continue to be available, and the employee may return to their regular position upon completion of the educational leave. An employee desiring to take leave under this policy must seek approval of their principal or supervisor and Human Resources at least thirty (30) calendar days, or as soon as practicable, in advance of the requested leave. If completing student teaching or a practicum experience, they must have an approved placement within the Bellevue School District.
Leave for Educational Purposes. 40 41 On the approval of the Sheriff, permanent employees may be granted leave of 42 absence without pay for a period of one year for the purpose of acquiring additional education 43 and training that will increase the usefulness and efficiency of the employee in his position as 44 determined by the Sheriff in his sole discretion.

However, the employee taking leave under this policy shall reimburse the District in the amount of any stipend received prorated to the number of days’ leave taken, excluding transportation and any other regularly accepted per diem expenses. An employee desiring to take leave under this policy must seek approval of his/her principal or supervisor at least thirty (30) days or as soon as practicable in advance of the requested leave. The principal or immediate supervisor, in consultation with the Executive Director, Human Resources, will approve the leave request unless, in the judgment of the principal or immediate supervisor, the leave would not be of direct benefit to the employee in the performance of his/her duties. Such approval will also be contingent upon determination by the principal or immediate supervisor that it is possible to replace the employee seeking leave without causing harm to the educational program.
