Leave of Absence for Union Activity. (a) Leave to attend Union Conventions The Employer shall grant Leave of Absence w ith pay to union delegates to the follow ing: Canadian Labour Congress; Canadian Union of Public Employees; Ontario Division of C.U.P.E. Ontario Federation of Labour The Union w ill attempt to notify the employee’ s manager of each delegate at least xx xxxx (20) days prior t o the date that delegates w ill be leaving to attend the convention. A copy of this notification w ill be provided by the Union to the Employee Services Branch.

Leave of Absence for Union Activity. 1. The State agrees to provide leaves of absence with pay for designees of the Union to attend Union activities. The Professional, Administrative and Clerical Services and Primary Level Supervisors and Higher Level Supervisors may use an aggregate of 2,500 days of such leave of absence during each year of the Agreement. After the contract is ratified, all stewards receive two paid days to attend training sessions on new contract language without the need to use the allotted paid leave days provided above. 2. a. This leave is to be used for participation in regularly scheduled meetings or conventions of labor organizations with which the Union is affiliated and for training programs or other Union activity for which appropriate approval by the State is required and which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
Leave of Absence for Union Activity. 1. The State agrees to provide leaves of absence without pay for designees of the Union to attend Union activities. A reasonable number of such unpaid leave of days, not to exceed one hundred and twenty-five (125), will be granted by the State for use during each year of the agreement. After the contract is ratified, all stewards and representatives designated by the Union will receive one day with pay to attend training sessions on new contract language. 2. Leave granted in 1 above is to be used for participation in conventions, training programs, or other Union activity for which appropriate approval by the State is required and which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. 3. Requests for such unpaid leave shall be submitted by the Union in writing, at least ten (10) calendar days in advance by the Business Manager or designee to the Office of Employee Relations to avoid disruption of the workflow. Authorized leaves granted to an individual shall not exceed a maximum of ten (10) days in a year. The Business Manager and the President may utilize an additional five (5) days each from the unpaid leave provided for in paragraph 1. Approval of such requests shall not be unreasonably denied. 4. Any unpaid leave not utilized in a yearly period shall not be accumulated except where a written request of the Union for carry-over of such leave for a particular purpose is made not later than thirty (30) days prior to the end of the year period. The State may approve this request in whole or in part. 5. The State agrees to provide leaves of absence with pay for the President or Business Manager of the Union up to a maximum of six (6) days during each year of the agreement. Paid days under this only may be used for training, which may include the annual IBEW Government Conference, mutually beneficial to the State and the Union. The approval of such paid leave shall be subject to operational needs of the Appointing Authority and a determination by OER of whether the training is mutually beneficial. Such request must be made by the Union in writing, at least ten (10) days in advance, to both OER and the Department. The decision by the State of whether to approve or deny such request for paid leave shall be final. Disputes arising under this provision shall not be subject to the contractual grievance/arbitration provisions set forth in Article V. There shall be no carryover of any unused paid leave days. 6. A total of 725 days of such leave of absence may be used during the period July l, 1999 through June 30, 2000, and 725 days of such leaves of absence during the period July 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001; and 725 days of such leaves of absence during the period July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2002 and 725 days of such leaves of absence during the period July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003.

Leave of Absence for Union Activity. Any employee with at least six (6) months of continuous service credit shall, on written request of the Union, be granted a leave of absence without pay for Union activity for a one (1) year period. Extensions of one (1) year may be requested and granted on written request of the Union prior to the termination of such leave. Continuity of service and full seniority privileges shall be retained and accumulated during such leaves of absence. When the Union activity for which such leaves of absence is granted cease, the Union shall immediately notify the Company in writing, and if application is made therefore within ten (10) days thereafter, such Union member will be given reinstatement to the employee's former position, if same still exists, or a comparable position in accordance with the employee's seniority privileges and at the applicable wage rate at the time of the employee's return. On written request of the Union and approval of the Company, employees shall be entitled to leaves of absence, without pay, to attend official Union conventions. The number of employees to be granted such leaves of absence will be discussed between the Company and the local Union.
Leave of Absence for Union Activity. (REFER TO PAY PLUS ADDENDUM) An employee, who returns to work after an authorized leave of absence for UNION activity shall be returned to his former labor grade assignment in line with his seniority. If said assignment is not in existence at that time, he/she shall go where his/her seniority will take him/her.

Any member of the Union shall be granted leave of two (2) years or less from his employment with the Company for the purpose of accepting employment with the Union. Leave of Absence for Union Activity. A member of the I.A.M. upon written request from the Union shall be granted a leave of absence for I.A.M. activity for one (1) year periods. Extensions of one (1) year periods may be requested and shall be granted by written request of the I.A.M. prior to the termination of this leave of absence. When this leave of absence terminates, the I.A.M. shall notify the Company in writing within ten (10) workdays thereafter of the employees’ desire to return to their former position or a comparable position with the Company. After the Union’s notification, the Company in accordance with the employees’ seniority privileges shall reinstate the employees at the applicable rates of pay, as shown in Schedule B (Column D), page 76, at the time of their return. Upon written request of the I.A.M., employees designated, as delegates shall be entitled to a leave of absence, without pay, to attend official regional conventions of the AFL- CIO or international conventions of the I.A.M. The number of employees to be granted this leave of absence shall be discussed between the Company and the Union. This leave of absence does not constitute a break in service for all purposes.
