Unpaid Union Leave. Upon request of the Union’s President or designee, the employer will grant leaves of absence without pay to bargaining unit employees who serve as Union representatives or officers for up to a ninety (90) calendar day period if it is consistent with operational needs. This leave will be for no more than one-time per year per employee and no more than eight employees per year who must be from different Departments. An employee’s entrance on duty date will not be changed, he/she will not be separated from payroll and he/she will be restored to his/her previous position at the conclusion of such leave.
Unpaid Union Leave. One (1) employee may be granted up to six (6) months of leave without pay with right to return to work for the Union. This leave must be requested from the Labor Relations Division of the Department of Human Resources and approved by the employee’s Department. Requests for this leave shall not be unreasonably denied.
Unpaid Union Leave. (a) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay and provided the Nurse has given reasonable advance notice of the request, the Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay for Union Business Leaves as follows :
(i) A member of the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union Board of Directors, or Provincial Committee, serving in any official capacity with the Union, other than the President of the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union, may be granted leave in order to attend such Board or Committee meetings;
(ii) The Provincial President of the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union in order to conduct Union Business;
(iii) any other Union business.
(b) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay, the Employer will make every reasonable effort not to cancel Unpaid Union Leave once it has been approved.
Unpaid Union Leave. (a) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay and provided the Nurse has given reasonable advance notice of the request, the Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay for Union Business Leaves as follows:
(i) as members of the Board of Directors of the NSGEU and NSNU, or, in the case of CUPE, the Local Executive of CUPE 8920, or in the case of Unifor, the Local Executive of Unifor 4600, for the attendance at Board meetings or, in the case of CUPE Local 8920 and Unifor 4600, for attendance at executive meetings;
(ii) any other Union business.
(b) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay, the Employer will make every reasonable effort not to cancel Unpaid Union Leave once it has been approved.
Unpaid Union Leave. An employee on an unpaid Union leave of absence shall have her wages, benefits and seniority continued by the Employer, and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer for the costs of such wages and benefits. Employees requesting leave under this article will provide the Employer with as much advance notice as possible of the dates of the leave. Union leave of absence without pay shall be granted as follows:
A) Subject to the operational requirements of the Employer and on reasonable notice in writing, unpaid leave of absence will be granted to one employee who is elected or appointed by the Union for the purpose of conducting official Union business.
B) Unpaid leave of absence will be granted to members of the Union's bargaining committee for time spent, including travelling time, preparation for negotiations, and thereafter for meetings with representatives of the Employer during negotiation, including mediation and arbitration of the Collective Agreement.
C) Unpaid leave of absence will be granted to members of the Union's Council for the purpose of attending regular or special meetings of the Council and shall include reasonable travel time.
D) An employee who holds the position of full-time president with the Union shall be granted a leave of absence without pay for the period during which the employee holds the position.
Unpaid Union Leave. The Employer may consider granting an unpaid union leave of absence without any cost to the Company of one (1) year provided that the Union pays the employee wages and provides benefits during the period of the leave. The Employer will “invoice” the Union for the cost of all wages and benefits during this Union leave. Within the Company, the employee will be treated as being on an unpaid LOA. The request for such leave of absence must be submitted three months in advance and must indicate the duration of the leave so the Company can make alternative arrangements. Such an employee shall also accumulate seniority during their absence.
Unpaid Union Leave. A leave of absence without pay but without loss of benefits shall be allowed for employees acting as representatives of the Union, its affiliated or chartered bodies, and labour organizations to which the Union is affiliated. Such leave shall be limited to twenty (20) days per year for the bargaining unit as a whole. Any unused days may be carried forward to the following year to a maximum total of forty (40) working days.

(a) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay and provided the Nurse has given reasonable advance notice of the request, the Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay for Union Business Leaves as follows :
(i) as members of the Board of Directors of the NSGEU and NSNU.
(ii) any other Union business.
(b) Subject to operational requirements such as the Employer’s ability to obtain a replacement and at no additional cost in premium pay, the Employer will make every reasonable effort not to cancel Unpaid Union Leave once it has been approved.
Unpaid Union Leave. An employee elected or selected to a full time job in the local Union, or the 21 International Union, which takes him from his employment with the Company, shall 22 upon written request to the Company receive an unpaid leave of absence for the 23 duration of his employment with the Union, or until this Agreement expires or is 1 terminated. Such an unpaid leave of absence may be extended only by mutual written 2 agreement. Upon completion of his leave of absence during the existence of this 3 Agreement, he shall be re-employed according to his seniority in the same job 4 classification that he held prior to leaving at the wage rates existing at the time of his 5 return, provided such work is available for him according to his seniority, and he has the 6 ability and qualifications to perform such work. Seniority shall accumulate during such 7 leave of absence. 8 Temporary leaves of absence without pay, not to exceed three weeks, may be 9 approved by the Company on a case by case basis. In deciding whether to approve 10 such temporary union leave of absence, the Company will consider, among other 11 factors, the total number of employees who are requesting leave during the same period 12 of time. When the number of employees requesting temporary union leave at any given 13 time would impose a strain on the Company’s operational needs, the Company will 14 make the decision to approve leave in seniority order, and the decision to xxxx leave in 15 reverse seniority order. The number of employees attending Union Negotiating 16 Committee functions shall not exceed three employees per week.
Unpaid Union Leave. The City may grant an employee up to four (4) weeks of unpaid leave to perform service with the Union. This leave must be requested from Human Resources and approved by the City Manager. Approval of the request for unpaid leave will depend on the operational needs of the City and attendant costs associated with the leave. Requests for this leave shall not be unreasonably denied.
