List of Paid Holidays. Full-time and temporary full-time nurses shall receive time off with pay of seven and one-half (7 ½) hours for the following paid holidays: New Year's Day Civic Holiday Good Friday Labour Day Easter Monday Thanksgiving Day Family Day Remembrance Day Victoria Day Christmas Day Canada Day Boxing Day The day before Christmas Day Or The day before New Year's Day For full-time nurses who have completed their probationary period, one (1) floating holiday which shall be requested by the nurse, five (5) weeks in advance, and no later than December 31st of any one year. If the request is not received by December 31st, the Employer shall have the right to schedule such float holiday or pay the nurse in lieu. Time off at Christmas or New Year’s shall be granted on an alternating basis from year to year, unless mutually agreed otherwise between the Employer and an individual employee.

With regard to working Christmas Eve Day (Dec 24th) and/or New Year’s Eve Day (Dec 31st), the following scenarios are meant to clarify any confusion. i) If a nurse works Christmas Eve Day and is off on New Year’s Eve Day, then New Year’s Eve is the stat day. The Nurse is paid at the regular rate for Christmas Eve Day. ii) If a nurse works New Year’s Eve Day and is off Christmas Eve Day, then Christmas Eve Day Is the stat day. The Nurse is paid at the regular rate for New Year’s Eve Day. iii) If a nurse works both, Christmas Eve Day is at regular pay and New Year’s Eve Day is considered the stat and the nurse is paid time and a half. List of Paid Holidays a) Regular and temporary full-time employees shall receive a paid working day off on, or in lieu of, the following holidays as designated by Canadian Blood Services: New Year’s Day Labour Day Family Day Thanksgiving Day Good Friday Remembrance Day Easter Monday Christmas Day Victoria Day Boxing Day Canada Day 1/2 day before Christmas Day* Civic Holiday 1/2 day before New Year’s Day* b) Regular and temporary full-time employees who are required to work on any of the aforementioned paid holidays shall be compensated, in addition to the holiday pay (3.75 or 7.5 hours, as applicable), a point five (.5x) premium for all hours worked up to seven and one-half hours (7.5) or their confirmed scheduled hours, whichever is greater, and a premium of one time (1.0x) his regular rate of pay for hours worked thereafter. In addition, such employee will receive time off at his regular rate of pay equivalent to the hours worked, up to a maximum of seven and one-half (7.5) hours. c) Time off in lieu of a holiday worked shall be scheduled at a mutually agreed time between the supervisor/manager and the employee. Holidays shall only be paid to the employee where the lieu day cannot be scheduled within the fiscal year due to pregnancy/parental, WSIB/WCB/WHSCC or LTD leaves. Such payment may be made when it becomes apparent that it cannot be thereby scheduled. d) A regular part-time or temporary part-time or casual employee who is required to work on a paid holiday shall be compensated at their regular rate of pay plus a point five (.5x) premium for hours worked and shall not receive a substitute day off. e) When a designated holiday falls within an employee’s vacation or approved short-term sick leave period, the employee shall be paid for the holiday and no deduction will be made from the applicable bank for that day. f) In lieu of all of the above paid holidays, regular part-time, temporary part- time and casual employees shall be paid 4.88 of their regular earnings (excludes overtime, premiums, pay in lieu of vacation, pay in lieu of sick benefits, etc.) on each pay.
