ORIENTATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM. 9.01 The Employer recognizes the need for an Employer Orientation Program of such duration as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Employer and the nurses involved.
9.02 Nurses recalled from layoff under Article 13, and nurses whose probationary period has been extended may be provided any orientation determined necessary by the Employer. A request by such an employee for orientation shall not be unreasonably denied.
9.03 Both the Employer and the Union recognize the joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and participate in educational programs. The Union supports the principle of its members’ responsibility for their own professional development and the Employer shall attempt where practical to provide programs related to the requirements of the Employer. Available programs will be publicized and the Employer will attempt where practical to provide nurses with opportunities to attend such programs (during their regularly scheduled working hours).
9.04 Where courses are required as a condition of employment, the employer shall cover the cost of these courses.
9.05 When an employee is on duty and authorized to attend any educational programs within VON and during her regularly scheduled working hours, she shall suffer no loss of regular pay.
9.06 Nurses may be required, as part of their regular duties, to supervise the activities of students and will be informed of their responsibilities in relation to these students.
9.07 The Employer agrees to discuss the effect of technological change on the employment status of the employees and to consider practical ways and means of minimizing the adverse effect, if any, on the employees concerned.

When the nurse is required by the Employer to attend an in-service program outside of her regularly scheduled working hours, the nurse shall be paid for all time spent in attendance at her regular straight time hourly rate of pay.
9.03 Where the Employer determines that new or enhanced skills are required as a condition of employment, the Employer shall cover the initial cost of such courses determined to be appropriate by the Employer.
9.04 Nurses may be required, as part of their regular duties, to supervise the activities of students or to act as preceptors for other nurses and will be informed of their responsibilities in relation to these students/other nurses.
ORIENTATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM. 9.01 The Employer recognizes the need for an Employer Orientation Program for new employees of such duration as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Employer and the nurses involved.
9.02 Nurses recalled from layoff under Article 13, and nurses whose probationary period has been extended, who have been transferred on a permanent basis, are returning from L.T.D., maternity leave or an extended leave of absence may be provided any orientation determined necessary by the Employer. A request by such an employee for orientation shall not be unreasonably denied.
9.03 Both the Employer and the Union recognize the joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and participate in educational programs. The Union supports the principle of its members‟ responsibility for their own professional development and the Employer shall attempt where practical to provide programs related to the requirements of the Employer. Available programs will be publicized.

The provisions of this Article shall not apply if the training/skill requirement is from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
9.05 Nurses may be required, as part of their regular duties, to supervise the activities of students and new employees and will be informed of their responsibilities in relation to these students or employees.
9.06 The Employer agrees to discuss the effect of technological change on the employment status of the employees and to consider practical ways and means of minimizing the adverse effect, if any, on the employees concerned.
9.07 When a nurse is on duty and is required by the Employer to attend an in-service program within the workplace, he/she shall suffer no loss in pay as a result of his/her attendance at the in-service. Management will endeavour to schedule in-services on three different days of the week when possible. When the nurse is required by the Employer to attend an in- service program outside his/her regularly scheduled working hours, the nurse shall be paid for all time spent in attendance at the regular straight time hourly rate of pay.
9.08 Where computers are introduced into the workplace and where nurses are required to utilize those computers in the course of their duties, the Employer agrees to pay 100% of the full tuition/program cost ...

a) An orientation program
b) A staff in-service educational program.
c) Staff attendance at professional nursing association meetings, short-term workshops or institutes relevant to the nurses’ work at the discretion of the Director of Operations or designate.
9.02 All time spent by the employee on the professional growth sessions will be paid as regular working time only where said sessions are determined to be mandatory and requested by the Director of Operations or designate.
9.03 Employees recalled from layoff under Article 13, and employees who have been on leave for greater than three (3) months will be provided with any orientation, training and education deemed necessary by the Employer. A request by such an employee for orientation shall not be unreasonably denied.
9.04 Both the Employer and the Union recognize the joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and participate in educational programs. The Union supports the principle of its members’ responsibility for their own professional development and the Employer shall attempt where practical to provide programs related to the requirements of the Employer. ORIENTATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM. TriHealth shall provide materials to School to give to participating medical students. The materials will cover the following subjects:
a. Safety (including, but not limited to, Universal Blood and Body Fluid Precautions);
b. Security;
c. Hazardous Materials and Waste Emergency Preparedness;
d. Life Safety;
e. Medical Equipment; and

d) i) When a nurse is required by VON to attend any inservice programme outside her regularly scheduled working hours, she shall be paid for time spent in attendance at such a programme at her regular straight time hourly rate of pay.
