Requests for Vacation Leave. Requests for vacation leave shall be made on forms provided by the Employer to the immediate Supervisor no less than two (2) weeks in advance of the requested vacation time. Request for vacation with less than two (2) weeks’ notice may be approved by the Department Head. Vacation shall be granted at the time requested by the Employee unless the nature of the work makes it necessary to limit the number of Employees on vacation at the same time. On or before February 1 of each year, Employees desiring specific times for vacation shall submit their requests to the Department Head or his/her authorized representative. If there is a conflict of vacation periods, the Employee with the greater seniority shall have first choice. Except that Employees who have worked less than one year within a division shall have their vacation priority determined by seniority in that division. If an Employee bumps someone out of a vacation, the Employee will be required to take those days off unless there are extenuating circumstances. Between February 1 and June 1 of each year an Employee may request a specific vacation time provided it does not conflict with those Employees who had made such determination prior to February 1. Between June 1 and October 1, vacations will be subject to approval by the Department Head or their designee.

Requests for Vacation Leave. Vacations shall be scheduled subject to 23 xxxxxxx requirements as determined by the City Safety/Service Director. Bargaining unit 25 of the request vacation. This will serve as a measure to better ensure approval of vacations and 26 efficient scheduling. Awarding vacations in this manner shall be in accordance with bargaining 27 unit seniority. All requests for vacation after December 31 shall be in accordance with 13.4 28 below.
Requests for Vacation Leave. During the month of November, a calendar of available vacation dates for the next calendar year will be provided to the employees. By classification, each employee may select vacation time in a minimum of one (1) week increments up to a maximum of two (2) weeks. If an employee elects to select two (2) weeks of vacation time during this initial “pass”, such weeks shall not be consecutive and at least one week shall separate each week. It is understood, however, that an employee may only block out vacation periods to the extent that the employee has sufficient vacation hours then currently accrued to support that requested block. Anticipated future accruals sufficient to support a request will not support a request to block future dates. The calendar shall be passed to the next lower person in seniority until all employees have had the opportunity to make an initial selection. Thereafter, such process shall be followed for an additional rotation. However, for this rotation, employees shall be restricted to scheduling one week of vacation. Thereafter the calendar shall be passed to the next classification, (full-time Dispatchers) for initial selection. Thereafter, employees shall be permitted to request vacation leave in other increments on a first-come first-served basis. The order of classification shall be Supervisors, and then Full-Time Dispatchers. Employees shall not be required to schedule any vacation time during any such rotations. Vacation leave may be requested more than one (1) year from the date it is to begin, but will be approved only upon satisfactory documentation of special/unusual circumstance such as an extensive waiting list or significant cost for cancellation. The Director will have sole discretion in this decision. Such requests may be submitted at any time. Advance leave requests shall be approved or denied within thirty (30) days of the date of the written request.

Requests for Vacation Leave not submitted in the December 1 bidding period, in excess of eight (8) hours shall be submitted to the employee's supervisor at least one (1) week in advance (7 days) of the requested starting date. Request for vacation, not submitted in the December 1 bidding period, in excess of forty (40) hours must be submitted a minimum of thirty (30) days in advance of the requested starting date. Vacation leave requests, not submitted in the December 1 bidding period, of eight (8) hours or less must be requested three (3) days in advance of the requested starting date.

Requests for Vacation Leave. Classified employees are able to take vacation leave on a first-come, first-served basis within their departments. A classified employee requesting vacation leave does not need to disclose the purpose of the vacation leave. Requests for vacation leave should be given to supervisors two or more weeks in advance. Classified employees should be given 30 days advanced notice of a planned vacation blackout period. Vacations approved prior to the notice of a vacation black-out period will be allowed except in extenuating circumstances. If there is a vacation scheduling conflict between two classified employees, the senior classified employee shall have first choice, provided they submitted their request for vacation forty-five (45) calendar days prior to the commencement of the vacation. The forty-five (45) day period is only for the purpose of preserving the classified employee’s seniority right to vacation scheduling and does not imply that vacation time must be requested forty-five (45) days in advance. Supervisors denying vacation leave requests should do so within five (5) days of the classified employee’s submittal of the request. The length of a vacation leave will only be limited if it impedes on the operational goals of the college.

The department shall approve leave request(s) and post them. LELS members do not have to request leave for all of their time off during their designated bidding period. After March 1st until December 31 the remainder of time off shall be approved on a first come, first served basis. Officers that put in for time off at the same time shall be granted by seniority first. Any vacation not requested by October 1 may be assigned by the department head or designee upon a five-day notice to the employee.
