Serious Family Illness. Maximum of three (3) days per contract year, non-cumulative, for serious illness of members of immediate family. Immediate family is defined as spouse, children, mother, father, or guardian. Serious illness is defined as one which requires hospitalization or is of an emergency nature. Leave granted under this provision is for the specific purpose of attending to the welfare of the sick person.

Serious Family Illness. After one year of continuous employment with the Employer, if a Registered Nurse's spouse, child, parent, or parent-in-law becomes injured or seriously ill and requires constant care, the Registered Nurse may apply for a leave of absence of up to six (6) months to care for the ill or injured family member. The application must be in writing provided in advance as soon as practical of the requested leave, submitted to the Registered Nurse's supervisor and shall be granted by the Employer. The Employer may require verification of illness by the family member's physician. Serious family illness or injury is defined to be identical to the definition used in the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Serious Family Illness. In the case of serious illness of a parent, spouse, brother, sister, child, compassionate leave with pay of up to three (3) days shall not be unreasonably withheld. Where the illness occurs outside the province, an additional extension, not to exceed two (2) days, shall be granted provided that entitlement shall depend on particular circumstances. Serious Family Illness. A teacher shall be allowed up to three (3) days, non-accumulative, for serious family illness leave. The family illness days will be available for use only when a teacher's spouse, adult child, sibling, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, or members of the teacher's immediate household are in a hospital, undergoing out-patient surgery or terminally ill. Said family member will be attended by a physician and upon request by the District, the teacher shall supply a verification of medical attention. An additional two (2) days, non-accumulative, of serious family illness may be used for the serious illness of a spouse. For these additional two days there will be deducted therefrom the amount of the District's current substitute pay, whether or not a substitute is actually employed and the days will be deducted from accrued sick leave.
