Temporary Assignment to Higher Classification. ‌ 12.01 When a Permanent or Probationary Employee is temporarily assigned, in writing, to a position that has a higher maximum rate of pay than his present position: (a) The employee will be paid, from the first Day, at a rate equal to: (i) his/her normal pay plus as least one (1) increment (dependent on the % of total responsibilities being performed), as identified in the wage schedule for the present classification, subject to this total amount being at least to the minimum rate paid for the job to which the employee is temporarily assigned, or (ii) the maximum rate for the job to which the employee is temporarily assigned, whichever is lesser. (b) If an employee remains in a temporary assignment for more than one (1) year, the employee will receive the increments which would be awarded to an employee in the position to which they have been temporarily assigned, so long as the employee remains in the position. This is not to be deemed as a change in the employee's permanent job class. 12.02 An employee who is serving in a temporary assignment is entitled to receive the increments he would have received in his regular job. 12.03 While acting in a Job to which this clause applies, the employee's salary in the acting Job will be used as the basis for overtime and any other payment which relates to the employee's hourly rate of pay. 12.04 For salary administration purposes, an employee who remains in a temporary assignment to a higher classification for more than three (3) consecutive months will have his temporary assigned pay added to his base salary on the payroll system. This is not deemed to be a permanent change in the employee’s salary. (a) The change in salary for an employee who accepts a temporary assignment that is known, in advance, to exceed three months in duration will be effective the first day of the assignment. (b) The change in salary for an employee who remains in consecutive temporary assignments that, in total, exceed three months in duration will be retroactive to the first Day of the first assignment. 12.05 In the event that an employee has been assigned to be a Subject Matter Expert for the purposes of training in a classroom setting (including preparation time), he shall be paid, from the first Day, an amount equal to his normal pay plus one increment in his present classification. Temporary Assignment to Higher Classification. Section 23.1 Each time an employee is designated by the department to act in a higher paying classification for at least six (6) consecutive work shifts, s/he shall receive five percent (5%) additional compensation beyond the wages of his/her present classification for the time spent working in the higher classification. If the employee serves for a period less than six (6) consecutive shifts, s/he shall receive no additional compensation beyond wages of his/her regular classification. However, nothing in this Article or Collective Bargaining Agreement shall be construed so as to require any type of appointment, designation or staffing to fill supervisory or other higher paying positions.

No employee in probationary status shall be allowed to act out of classification. 5. At no time shall any employee act out of classification until all requirements have been met for that classification. All licenses and certifications must be current and valid and the employee must have the necessary time in grade when acting is performed. If the use of employees to act in a higher classification results in a call back, then acting shall be disallowed. However, if there are vacancies during a shift that are to be filled through mandatory overtime/mandatory callback, then engineers or fire fighters who are on the Telestaff voluntary sign up list shall act even if it requires a callback. This exception is permitted to the maximum number of acting employees as defined in section 6 below. 6. During any shift, there shall be no more than six (6) employees acting as Engineer, and no more than four (4) employees acting as Captain. The County and the Union shall review these numerical limitations annually and mutually agree upon any changes necessary to maintain approximately the same numerical relationship of actors and non-actors as originally established. 7. There shall be no more than one (1) employee acting as Engineer and no more than one (1) employee acting as Captain during a given shift at a station, and in no event shall both actors be assigned to the same unit.

Temporary Assignment to Higher Classification. Employees may be temporarily assigned duties and responsibilities of a higher graded position for reasons deemed appropriate by the appointing authority. An employee so assigned shall be notified in writing at the beginning of the assignment as to the anticipated duration of the temporary promotion, and the wage rate to be received during the temporary promotion. The employee will return to their former position and salary at the end of the temporary promotion. Employees temporarily assigned to a higher graded position in accordance with this section shall receive a temporary increase upon completion of eight (*) hours or one full shift ,whichever is greater.
