Averaging. The hours worked by employees may be averaged over four (4) weeks or a longer period provided the Union and affected employees are informed of the circumstances and terms of the proposed averaging; and, provided the affected employees approve of the averaging as provided in Part Ill of the Canada Labour Code with respect to modified work schedules. The hours worked by employees in the Assistant Manager or higher positions may be averaged over an eight (8) week period. All hours worked in excess of 320 hours in the eight (8) week period shall be deemed to be overtime work and shall be paid for or banked at the rate of one and one half times (1½ X) the employee’s regular rate of pay as directed by the employee.

Averaging. The hours set out for each four (4) week cycle are regular scheduled hours and hours worked in excess of that regular schedule are paid at the applicable overtime rate. Daily overtime is payable after 12 continuous hours and overtime for "regular shift operators" is payable for hours worked outside of the scheduled hours within a specific cycle. Overtime entitlement for relief operators is set out in 37.9. (i) Employees will continue to be paid eighty (80) hours bi-weekly at straight time rates for working the schedules set out. (ii) Any denial of a specific date to be the scheduled day off will normally be at the time the request is made. (iii) If changes occur outside of (ii) notice will be one week in advance.
Averaging. (a) Primary schools (i) the total scheduled class time per week in clause 56.4 may be averaged over the term save that it cannot normally be more than 24 hours in any one week. (b) Secondary schools (i) The total scheduled class time per week in clause 56.4 may be averaged over the terms of semesters in a school year, save that the maximum in any one term or semester shall not exceed 21 hours in any one week or 22 with the agreement of the Teacher. (ii) If averaging over a year is proposed in terms of this clause, then such a proposal shall first be the subject of consultation with the Consultative Committee and recommendation to the Principal.
Averaging. 38.1 Lecturing hours may be averaged over periods of up to 21 calendar weeks in a semester, except for Pilbara Institute where lecturing hours may be averaged over periods of up to 20 weeks in a semester. 38.2 The maximum averaging lecturing hours will be 420 hours over 21 weeks, or 20 weeks. A pro rata number of lecturing hours based on an average of 21 hours per week will be worked for averaging periods of less than 20 weeks. 38.3 Lecturing hours cannot be carried over from one semester to another and each lecturer will commence each semester with a zero balance of lecturing hours. 38.4 Lecturers and managers will strive to reach reasonable agreement on arrangements for the commencement and duration of any period of averaging. 38.5 Both parties will strive to find reasonable solutions in the event of a change to previously agreed averaging arrangements becoming necessary. 38.6 In striving to reach agreement regarding the implementation of averaging, or changing averaging arrangements, there will be full and proper consultation. Full and proper consultation will involve direct communication between the employee and management at the earliest opportunity and if working as part of a team may include consultation between management and the team. Equity considerations, personal and family commitments, professional and personal development commitments, occupational safety and health issues, educational quality issues and flexible hours arrangements will be considered in the decision making process. 38.7 When lecturing hours vary in accordance with averaging pursuant to this clause, PA hours and ARD hours remain constant, as specified for a lecturer lecturing 21 hours per week in Schedule L – Hours Chart. 38.8 Subject to sub-clause 38.1, ordinary lecturing hours may be programmed throughout the semester except during a lecturer’s annual leave and professional allowance leave periods. 38.9 All duties scheduled on a public holiday in Clause 63 – Public Holidays of this Agreement will be deemed to have been worked. 38.10 When a lecturer completes the requisite number of hours in less weeks than the duration of the period of averaging, the lecturer is only required to perform ARD and PA of 16.5 hours per week for the duration of the period of averaging. Averaging. 19.1 For the purpose of this clause, teacher includes head teacher. 19.2 Teachers and their supervisors may agree to average the teacher’s direct teaching component as set out in subclause 16.1 of clause 16, Allocation of Duties, over fixed periods of up to one year determined in advance to enable appropriate patterns of work to meet student needs in accordance with the following provisions. 19.2.1 Teachers may, within the fixed averaging period be allocated teaching up to five hours above their direct teaching component, provided that the direct teaching component is to balance over the averaging period. 192.2 The direct teaching component to related duties ratio is to be maintained but may be averaged over the fixed averaging period, provided that the standard attendance of 30 hours per week is met.
