Counseling Faculty. (a) The service of regular tenured or probationary counselors may be needed during days not included in the faculty duty day calendar. In order to meet this need the following provisions will apply: The appropriate academic administrator, in consultation with the chair of the Counseling Department, will determine those non-duty dates on which counseling service is required and the number of counselors to be involved. These dates may include any non-duty days during the school year as well as any days in the last week of the school year but excluding holidays and Winter and Spring recesses. In addition, the appropriate academic administrator, in consultation with the chair of the Counseling Department, shall designate a “low load” period during which compensatory time may be taken.
(b) All counselors will be given an opportunity to volunteer to serve on one or more of the specified non-duty days in exchange for compensatory time off during the designated “low load” period. Each volunteer and his or her compensatory time request must be approved by the appropriate academic administrator.
(c) If all needed counselor time is not satisfied by approved volunteers, the appropriate academic administrator may draft counselors to serve as needed. The appropriate academic administrator shall attempt to make these mandatory assignments and the related compensatory time in the best interest of the counseling office and the counselors involved. Counselors drafted for service should be selected on a rotational basis which over time will require all counselors to share in the non-duty day assignments.
(d) Summer and Winter intersessions are specifically excluded from 6.3.3.c. However, counselors may be assigned to work the week preceding the start of Spring semester, as well as peak periods during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Counseling Faculty. Each full-time counselor is responsible to the appropriate administrator and is responsible for developing a 35-hour weekly schedule of professional responsibilities, in conjunction with the appropriate administrator, pursuant to Article 6, Section D of this Agreement.
Counseling Faculty.
7.1 Load credit activities of counseling faculty shall include counseling in all areas essential to the student and academic community: consultation with members, administrators and parents; maintenance of client records; and completion of other supporting paperwork.
7.2 Where applicable, present counseling faculty shall continue to hold their instructional faculty rank and also tenured appointment, if previously held.
7.2.1 Counseling faculty shall be known and identified as Staff Counselor, Assistant Counselor, Associate Counselor and Counselor.
7.2.2 The standards of rank for Staff Counselor, Assistant Counselor, Associate Counselor and Counselor shall be exactly those for Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor respectively.
7.3 Both parties to this Agreement recognize and endorse the participation of counseling faculty in the governance of the academic community.
Counseling Faculty. 1. An evaluation of counseling performance shall be made by the Individual Tenure Review Committee in accordance with the following:
a. one observation per committee member will be conducted during the appropriate semesters as described below in sections 11.5 through 11.8 below ;
b. the candidate shall be given a minimum of five (5) workdays notice regarding the date and time of each specific observation; and
c. the candidate may request a pre-observation meeting with the evaluator(s) and/or provide a brief student history to the evaluator(s) prior to the observation.
2. An evaluation of counseling performance by students shall be completed in accordance with the following:
a. an Evaluation of Counselors by Students (form N) shall be distributed to those students provided counseling assistance by the candidate;
b. students will deposit their completed forms in a locked collection box;
c. forms from the locked box will be retrieved and tabulated by the chairperson of the Individual Tenure Review Committee; and
d. the forms will then be made available to the candidate for his/her review.
3. An evaluation of professional duties and responsibilities of the candidate shall be conducted by the sitting academic area leader, regardless of that individual’s status on the Individual Tenure Review Committee, who shall evaluate the candidate’s performance on the professional duties criteria enumerated in section 11.2.2 above;
4. An evaluation of appropriate counseling documents shall be conducted; and
5. An evaluation shall be made of any other information deemed by the Individual Tenure Review Committee to be relevant to its employment recommendation.

7.2 Where applicable, present counseling faculty shall continue to hold their instructional faculty rank and also tenured appointment, if previously held.
7.2.1 Counseling faculty shall be known and identified as Staff Counselor, Assistant Counselor, Associate Counselor and Counselor.

7.2.3 Counseling Faculty hired with an effective date of August 27, 2011, or thereafter, shall be appointed to defined term appointments (see Article 4.8.4). Such appointments may be renewed for a period of not less than one (1) and not more than five (5) work years. Appointments may be for either ten (10) month or twelve (12) month work years. Twelve- month appointments shall be governed by the provisions of Article
10.6.1.1. Counseling Faculty who works on a paid holiday shall receive a compensatory paid day off to be taken within ninety (90) calendar days.
7.2.4 A final appointment shall be made subsequent to a decision to discontinue a member on a defined term appointment. Such appointment shall be for six (6) months only. The letter of appointment shall include the statement, “this is a final appointment pursuant to the current collective bargaining agreement carrying with it no expectation of reappointment.” In unique circumstances it may be in the best interest of the University to payout the member for the final six (6) months of employment instead of having them work it. In these circumstances, the decision to do so rests solely with the University
7.2.5 Counseling Faculty who were hired on a tenure-track appointment prior to August 27, 2021, shall continue to hold such appointments.
7.2.6 Counseling Faculty whose contracts are renewed may be considered new appointees for purposes of salary and rank determination provided there is no reduction in salary or rank. As such, counseling faculty on defined term appointment are not eligible for promotion via the University Promotion and Tenure process. .
7.3 Both parties to this Agreement recognize and endorse the participation of counseling faculty in...
Counseling Faculty. 7.3.4.1 Full-time counseling faculty without reassigned time shall engage in direct student contact, preparation, professional development, and college service to comprise a forty (40) hour work week. Such work shall be comprised of a minimum of thirty (30) hours direct student contact and five (5) hours of preparation, and five(5) hours of college service and other faculty responsibilities as assigned for a total of 40 hours per week.
7.3.4.1.1 Mental health counseling faculty service shall be comprised of twenty (20) hours of direct student contact, five (5) hours of preparation, five (5) of crisis psychotherapy, five (5) hours of group therapy/student focused presentations, and five (5) hours of college service and other faculty responsibilities as assigned for a total of 40 hours per week.
7.3.4.2 Full-time counseling faculty with reassigned time shall engage in direct student contact hours and preparation hours on a modified basis as outlined in Appendix D. College service and other faculty responsibilities are unaffected by reassigned time and remain the responsibility of the faculty member.
7.3.4.3 Full-time educational counselors and metal health counselors may accept interns to mentor at no additional compensation with the approval of the appropriate administrator. The time spent mentoring will replace student contact hours.
7.3.4.4 Part-time counseling faculty shall be given paid non-student contact time assigned as thirty (30) minutes daily if working less than (6) hours, and one (1) hour if working six (6) hours or more.
7.3.4.5 Counselors will perform direct student contact and/or other counseling duties as assigned by the Xxxx of Counseling. Other counseling duties may include but are not limited to, departmental meetings, service area outcomes design, assessment, and analysis; and program review of assigned programs.
7.3.4.6 Counselors may be assigned to teach courses as overload. This assignment is made by the mutual agreement of the appropriate administrator and the faculty member.
Counseling Faculty. A counseling faculty member who is actively employed by Xxxxxxxxxx College during a summer session, shall be paid: (1) for the first forty-four (44) working days assigned by Management during such summer session, a daily rate, determined by dividing, by one hundred ninety-five (195), the faculty member’s salary for the fiscal academic year ending during the calendar year of the summer session, and (2) for each five (5) working days or portion thereof in excess of forty-four (44) assigned by Management during such summer session, a rate equal to the salary for an equivalent semester hour in accordance with the schedule attached hereto as Appendix I.
