Daily Duty Hours. Kaimahi will:
a) be on duty for no more than eight hours in any day except when:
I. on field trips or approved off-campus teaching duties (including noho marae), when duty hours will be agreed between the kaimahi and the employer, up to a maximum of 14 hours per 24-hour period.
II. travelling in the course of duties, or on official business, when travelling time may be counted as duty up to a maximum of 10 total duty hours in one day.
b) take a meal break of not less than 30 minutes and not more than one hour after each period of five hours of continuous duty.
c) not undertake duty within 11 hours of completing duty on the previous day.
d) 2.5.1 does not apply to kaimahi based at the former MIT, TOPNZ and Unitec whose provisions are laid out in the applicable schedules.

Daily Duty Hours. Each employee shall be on duty as assigned by the principal from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on each school day. It is understood and agreed that transportation scheduling and student and/or space requirements may make it necessary to schedule employees to begin earlier or later than 8:00 a.m. in which event the close of the regular school day for such employees shall be advanced or delayed a like period of time so as to result in normal school day hours not exceeding eight (8) for the employee thus affected. A minimum of thirty days prior to the beginning of a semester, the Administration may designate an adjusted schedule for specific positions to accommodate specialized programs or services or alternative student schedules. Any such adjustment shall maintain a work day of consecutive hours and a work year consistent with the designated number of VEA work days for any given contractual year. Positions with an adjusted schedule shall be posted with the schedule requirements. Employees already assigned to a position that is to be converted to an adjusted schedule shall have the right to decline the assignment in lieu of another opening for which they are certified and qualified. If there are no openings available for which they are certified and qualified, layoff and recall procedures will be implemented.
Daily Duty Hours. 5.3.1 The employer may not require the lecturer to be on duty for more than 34 hours per week. Normal hours of work for lecturers are between 8.00 am and 9.30 pm Monday to Friday inclusive, and unless otherwise agreed, daily duty hours must be in one continuous period. A Lecturer may not be required to undertake duty for more than a total of 8 hours per week after 5.00 pm and this shall not occur on more than two nights per week. Notwithstanding this lecturer engaged in activities such as clinical teaching may be required to work for up to 450 hours per annum outside of 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Except for field trips or approved off-campus teaching duties, a lecturer shall be on duty for no more than eight hours per day.
5.3.2 If there is demand or opportunity for academic work outside of the hours prescribed in 5.3.1, the relevant line managers and lecturers will work together to develop the offering. Where lecturers agree to hours of work outside of 5.3.1, such agreement will remain in force for an agreed period, except in exceptional circumstances.
5.3.3 Lecturers shall take a meal break of not less than thirty minutes and not more than one hour after each four hour period of continuous duty. A lecturer shall not undertake duty within 11 hours of completing duty on the previous day.
5.3.4 Hours spent travelling from a lecturer’s base site to a teaching or supervising role at another campus or learning situation, or where overnight accommodation is required, shall be counted as duty hours.

Bargaining unit members who, in a timely manner, can meet professional obligations have the flexibility to deviate from contractual work hours. Professional obligations may include but are not limited to: BLTs, staff meetings, student support, IEPs, 504 meetings, continuous improvement, department meetings, professional learning. Flexibility includes the option to arrive 15 minutes prior to student arrival and leave 15 minutes after student dismissal. No additional planning time will be provided.

1. Emergency Absence: If an employee is unable to report for duty because of illness or another justifiable reason, that employee shall make one phone call notifying either the building principal or sub call-in service, at the District’s discretion no later than 6:00 a.m., unless an emergency arises and it is impossible for the employee to give such notice.
2. Pre-arranged absence: Pre-arranged absences will be scheduled by the building secretary or designee.
3. Employees shall be afforded compensatory time for principal-approved activities, which may be taken during daily duty non- instructional hours with the approval of the building administrator. A record of compensatory time earned shall be kept by the administration or designee. Time earned or used will be recorded. The bargaining unit member shall promptly bring discrepancies to the attention of administrators. Said compensatory time shall normally be taken before or after school hours, but may be taken during the employee’s planning time on a sign in/sign out basis with the approval of the building administrator.
