DEDUCTION OF MEMBERSHIP DUES. Section 1. The City agrees to deduct the regular monthly membership dues and COPE checkoff (minimum $1.00 monthly) of the Transit Union from the pay of the Transit Union members on the first pay period of each month and remit same to the Financial Secretary of the Transit Union within ten (10) days after the date of their deduction, provided such members individually and voluntarily authorize and request the City in writing to make such deductions. Such authorization and request shall also authorize the City to base the deductions on a list to be furnished to it each month by the Financial Secretary of the Transit Union showing the names of the members and the amounts of the regular monthly membership dues to be deducted from the pay of each member. Such authorization may be revoked by the employee at any time by giving written notice thereof to the City. Whenever such list indicates that the amount of the membership dues has been changed, it shall be accompanied by a certificate of the Financial Secretary of the Transit Union that such change in the amount of membership dues has been brought about in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of the Transit Union. Section 2. The individual authorizations for the deduction of regular monthly membership dues shall be worded as follows: Section 3. Previously signed and unrevoked written authorizations shall continue to be effective as to employees reinstated following layoff, leave of absence, or suspension not exceeding sixty (60) days; previous authorization of other employees rehired or reinstated shall not be considered to be effective. Section 4. If the City receives an employee revocation of authorization no later than two weeks prior to the first payday of each month, no deduction will be made from the payroll period or subsequent payroll periods. Revocations received too late for this handling will then only effect subsequent payroll periods. Section 5. The City agrees to provide this service without charge to the Transit Union. Section 6. The City shall not be liable for the remittance payment of any sums other than those constituting actual deductions made; and if for any reason the City fails to make a deduction for any employee whose authorization has been received no later than two (2) weeks prior to the payday in which such dues are normally deducted, the City shall make that deduction from the employee's next pay period in which Transit Union dues are normally deducted, after written notific...

Deductions shall be made semimonthly in standard amounts and remitted to the 10 Association. 12 Newly employed Nurses shall be required to join and maintain membership in the 13 Association as a condition of employment; any Registered Nurse who is a member of and 14 adheres to established and traditional tenets or teachings of a bona fide religion, body or 15 sect which has historically held conscientious objections to joining or financially supporting 16 labor organizations need not join the Association but shall pay an equivalent amount to the 17 ONA Nurses Foundation, ONA Nurses Scholarship Fund or the Silverton Hospital Auxiliary 18 Scholarship Fund with such payments specifically set aside for nursing education 19 scholarships. Payments are to be made within 30 days following the date of employment 20 and are to be continued monthly or in advance and receipts sent to the membership 21 department of the Association. 23 The Hospital shall notify the unit chairpersons for the Association whenever a new employee 24 is hired who would be covered by this Agreement. One member of the Association and/or 25 the ONA labor relations representative will be given an opportunity to meet with those 26 new hire orientees during the first day of orientation week, for a period of fifteen (15) 27 minutes. The Hospital will notify the Association or its designee of the date and time for 28 this purpose at least two (2) weeks in advance. 30 The Hospital will furnish the Association a monthly master list of all members in the 31 bargaining unit including names, addresses, phone numbers, unit, classification and date of 32 hire. 1 The Association agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Hospital and its agents for 2 any loss or damage arising from the performance of these services.
DEDUCTION OF MEMBERSHIP DUES. The County agrees to deduct membership dues from the wages of member employees who have individually requested in writing that such deductions be made from their wages. The Union shall notify the County of the current rate of dues and other authorized deductions in a timely manner, which will enable the County to make the necessary payroll deductions as specified. The County will accept a list from Union indicating member employees who have provided written authorization for the deduction of membership dues. The County shall rely on this list to make authorized deductions and remit payment to Union. The amounts to be deducted shall be certified to the County in writing by the Union. Under no circumstances shall County be required to deduct Union fines, penalties, or other assessments from the wages of any member employee. The aggregate deductions of the member employees shall be remitted to AFSCME Local 75 once each pay period. together with an itemized statement showing the name of each employee and employee identification number from whose pay deductions have been made and the amount(s) deducted during the period covered by the remittance. The itemized statement will be provided electronically in Microsoft Excel format. Employees whose employment begins or ends after working less than ten (10) working days in any calendar month will not be subject to dues deduction. An electronic file listing new authorizations or changes in authorizations for employee Union dues deductions will be submitted by the Union to the County electronically by close of business on the twentieth (20th) of each month. The County agrees that dues deduction authorizations submitted within the timelines above shall be deducted from the next issued paycheck for the previous applicable pay period. Each member employee’s authorization for payroll deductions shall remain in full force and effect permanently unless the employee is no longer employed in a position in the bargaining unit represented by Union or the member employee revokes the authorization by sending an original written, signed and dated notice to the Union. If the Iowa Supreme Court rules against the Union for dues deduction and if it is determined that ATU Local 779 13C protections do not apply to dues deductions, the parties agree to negotiate regarding dues deductions.
