Faculty Duties. The policy shall be a first (1st) payer in relation to any policy carried by or on behalf of a Faculty Member for claims as noted in clause 28.1.
Faculty Duties. In addition to instructional duties, a teaching faculty employee’s duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: • approved professional development, • course preparation and revision, • student consultation and/or selection, • participation on NVIT committees, • compulsory attendance at department meetings, • liaison with and supervision of NVIT employees, • development of new programs, curriculum and teaching methods, • scholarly activity, • consultation and liaison with partner institutions in the preparation and offering of upper division courses, • community services such as community education courses, public lectures and community advisement or research in the area of the instructor’s discipline and/or expertise, • attendance at articulation meetings, conferences, etc related to their work, • orientation advising (such as liaison, mentorship and support for students), and • other related duties.
Faculty Duties. 19.1 It is recognized that the students of the College are adults and, therefore, the instructional duties and supervision required of Faculty Members shall reflect this reality.
19.2 It is incumbent upon Faculty Members to provide quality programming for their students. A Faculty Member is expected to perform theoretical and practical instructional responsibilities including preparation, instruction, evaluation, assessment, supervision, consultation, academic and career advisement as well as related professional responsibilities including, but not limited to, participating on committees, marketing, developing program and curriculum, establishing work placement qualifications, monitoring work placements, liaising with business and industry, and representing the College.
(a) Workload comprises theoretical and practical instructional responsibilities related to assigned instructional contact hours and related professional responsibilities in accordance with clause 19.2.
(b) The College shall assign a Faculty Member’s workload after consultation with the Faculty Member and taking into account the College’s Instructional Contact Hour Guidelines.
(c) The College shall ensure that Instructional Contact Hour Guidelines have been made available to each Faculty member prior to assigning workload.
(a) A standing Faculty Duties Committee (FDC) will be established to:
(i) review and recommend to the College revisions to the Instructional Contact Hour guidelines;
(ii) review and recommend to the College guidelines for new programs;
(iii) to hear and decide upon workload appeals;
(iv) to hear and decide upon appeals of scheduled working hours and days of work;
(v) to hear and decide upon appeals concerning individual learning days.
(vi) to hear and decide upon appeals arising from decisions of the Learning College Portfolio Review Committee.
(b) The FDC shall comprise three (3) representatives appointed by the College, three (3) representatives appointed by the Union, and Vice-President (Academic) or designate as non-voting Chair, except when the FDC is hearing and deciding upon workload appeals, in which case the Chair will be a voting chair.
(c) The Committee shall meet at least annually and such other times as may be agreed by the Committee.
(d) The College will give due consideration to the recommendations under clauses 19.4 (a) (i) and 19.4 (a) (ii).
Faculty Duties. (a) In addition to instructional duties, a teaching faculty employee's duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
(i) approved professional development;
(ii) course preparation and revision;

(iv) requisitioning supplies and equipment, and LRC materials;
(v) participation on College committees;
(vi) liaison with and supervision of College employees;
(vii) development of new programs, curriculum and teaching methods;
(viii) scholarly activity;
(ix) consultation and liaison with partner institutions in the preparation and offering of upper division courses;
(x) community services such as community education courses, public lectures and community advisement or research in the area of the instructor's discipline and/or expertise;
(xi) other related duties.
(b) The teaching faculty duty year shall consist of the following:
(i) one hundred and ninety (190) days duty time;
(ii) twenty (20) days approved professional development time;
(iii) forty (40) consecutive days annual vacation.
(c) Faculty non-instructional duties are to be approved by the appropriate administrator in consultation with the coordinator and the individual faculty members in accordance with duties described in 20.2.6(a) above, Faculty Duties.
(d) Every second year, faculty teaching in semester-based programs may be required to teach up to one (1) six week course or its equivalent during their professional development/non-instructional duty time as a part of their regular course load.
(e) Non-teaching faculty and academic assistant duties are as described in job descriptions which are prepared by the appropriate senior administrator.
(f) For all non-teaching faculty, the duty year shall normally consist of the following:
(i) up to twenty (20) days approved professional development time;
(ii) forty (40) consecutive days annual vacation;
(iii) the remainder of the year as assigned duty time.
(g) For all academic assistants, the duty year shall normally consist of the following:
(i) up to ten (10) days approved professional development time;
(ii) thirty (30) days annual vacation;
(iii) the remainder of the year as assigned duty time.

Faculty Duties. 1. Full-time faculty at Wenatchee Valley College are professional employees whose responsibilities go beyond instruction. Full-time faculty will, in addition to their instructional duties, engage in advising, curriculum development and assessment activities. Full-time faculty are also expected to participate in the shared governance of the college which allows faculty to review current or proposed practices of the college, recommend changes or improvements, help prioritize college resources and employees, and delegate/request the college provide support for these activities. This participation is through the Instruction Council and the standing committees/ad hoc committee structure. Faculty are not expected to do administrative work.
2. Part-time faculty at Wenatchee Valley College will engage in instruction and have input into curriculum development in their related field. Part-time faculty will only be responsible for assessment regarding the outcomes of the classes they are currently teaching.

a. Become familiar with College policies and procedures
b. Be able to explain to students the course content and requirements and distribute a course syllabus during the first day of scheduled class
c. Meet every assigned class at its designated time except for illness, emergency situations, and approved absences
d. Assume responsibility for the security of College facilities and equipment
e. Maintain a classroom that is conducive to learning and indicate a sincere interest in students’ education
f. Arrange for equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for instruction
g. Advise students concerning academic achievement, absences, and tardiness that might jeopardize satisfactory progress
h. Emphasize to all classes the importance of prompt, regular and continuous class attendance
i. Maintain accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in each class, and submit course enrollment correction forms to the registrar by due date, and grade reports to the Registrar's Office by due date
j. Refer students who need special consideration to the appropriate student services
k. Report all irregularities, questions, or problems concerning instruction to the department supervisor
l. Keep credentials and certifications (as required) current and on file in the Human Resource Office
m. Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the stated philosophy and objectives of the College and in accordance with the approved master course syllabus
n. Participate in all activities directed by the supervisor related to student learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes when they are required by the program of study
o. Participate in all activities directed by the supervisor related to student advisement, student recruitment, and student retention p. Initiate purchase requisitions as appropriate
q. Recommend course textbook and submit it to the appropriate textbook adoption website
r. Recommend the selection of library books, reference materials, and periodicals for the Library
s. Perform registration duties
t. Attend and support activities of the College such as scheduled and special faculty and department meetings and assigned committee meetings
